The Philadelphia Eagles Dumped Brian Dawkins
This is arguably the most cold, heartless, fucked-up, and stupid play ever made by the club. He was their ringleader. He was their soul. His former teammates are heartbroken - and so are all the fans. Myself included.

As one irate blogger said...."Good job, Jeff. You dropped the soul of the team to hold onto the choker".

All of Philadelphia will miss you, Brian. I hope you get your ring in Denver.

1. Philadelphia only turned around their season when Dawkins got healthy.
This is an epic fail.

6. Epic Fail is right.
That's actually the first thing that ran through my mind when I heard about it this morning.

EPIC FAIL. And every local sports talk radio station and news station is in full agreement. Even ESPN is dumbstruck.

8. This makes how many great defensive players they've let get away??
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 09:32 PM by KamaAina
Corey Simon (to the Dolts! :grr:) and Trotter (twice!) snap to mind.

PSA: Just because you lose a playoff game to the 'Aints doesn't mean you have to try to emulate them! :dunce:

11. I saw Corey every morning at the Wawa....
getting coffee with the rest of us. He was one of the good ones. Loved his fans - just like Brian.

This sucks. We lost our icon today. :(

10. Seems like a lot of teams are gutting their defenses.
Gonna be a high scoring season!

12. Here's the problem:
Every year, during the football season, you can turn on the sports radio stations and listen to the callers. The argument is always the same: Do we keep Donovan, or get rid of Donovan? You will hear a literal split in opinion of it. The pro-Donovan advocates will sing his praises, run through all his numbers...."But, but, but he's a PRO-BOWLER! You can't get rid of him! Look at his numbers - he's one of the best in the League!" Meanwhile, the rest of us come right back with "His fucking numbers don't matter, if he chokes when his numbers matter the most. This guy is supposed to be winning Super Bowls, right?"

Meanwhile, Brian has been consistent. ALWAYS consistent. Never lets us down. I've never seen such shock come from Eagles fans, news anchors and sports commentators, like I have seen today. Nobody expected it. NOBODY.

14. Hard to say why management makes these types of decisions.
Part of it is the cap and what the bean counters have to say. The other part is that management are just shit for brains. Sounds like you guys got a little of both going on. I really hate seeing top defenders go over offensive players though, especially a guy like Dawkins. To add insult to injury, I think this was McNabb's last shot. I feel your pain.

13. Dawk is god to me.
I am sickened to my very core by this. Eagles management has absolutely no heart, no soul and no fucking brains. The guy spilled his guts for us for 13 years and they repay him telling him to fuck off. I'm seriously considering boycotting the Eagles until Reid and Banner are gone. Assholes.

17. You should post that in the Fox 29 sports forum.
This morning, it seems that the news anchors are torn between coverage of the snow storm, or discussing this travesty. :(

This isn't going away any time soon.

Just asking, cause this just sounds so much like a Lions play.

Sheesh. Even Rendell (PA governor) issued a statement. He's in shock and disbelief as well.

30. Lions are always looking for quarterbacks too
Do they want to trade McNabb too?

FFS I hope there is a good reason for this trade, cause so far the Eagles have done jack during free agent signing.

23. I remember that.
I remember him holding up his purple jersey at the press conference, and thinking to myself, "What a stupid mistake".

But this? Brian was known as the one who held the team together, morale-wise. Fantastic work ethic. Positive attitude. Relentless on the field. The picture that Mr Slayer posted is the perfect representation of what Brian is like on the field.

Ugh.

24. He's all yours, now.
I have to admit, he doesn't look happy about this - at least not at the press conference. He's always had that fire in his eyes - and now it's gone. He looks depressed.

I hope your team can help get him what he's worked so hard for, all these years - a Superbowl win.
