I taught my kids chess, othello, and such when they were about that age and I'm afraid to play them now!

2. I taught myself to play chess at 8, forty years ago

They bought me a self-learning system that consisted of a plastic box that held a bunch of loose sheets of paper. The top was clear and showed you how to position the chess pieces.

It was supposed to be a Christmas present but I busted into it in November. What was most unusual was that neither of them even played chess. So the first thing I did was teach my dad so that I would always have someone to play with. When I left for college my father tried to interest my mother in the game but she said that it gave her headaches. She was a keen bridge player, however.

But go is special and beautiful. Screen shot of my first win against the 'puter:



I am now giving it a handicap! I can't say that about my chess game against the computer!
