Poll question: Ketchup on hot dog
I put ketchup on hot dogs. I think it's good, some think it is disgusting.

What say you denizens of ye olde Lounge?

11. Mustard/onions/relish w/no ketchup is a Chicago tradition
for the most part. Chicagoans kinda made it stick throughout the upper midwest. It's a regional thing, like vinegar vs. tomato-based BBQ sauce.

13. It's a proven fact that "night owls" tend to be much more intelligent than 9-to-5ers.
The IQ of the Internet jumps almost 15 points between 10:00pm and midnight.
I've seen charts that prove that conclusively.

Sure, I drew those charts myself...on my wall...with a hotdog dipped in ketchup...
but I've SEEN them!

3. Absolutely delicious. The only time I eat them without it is in a concoction called a "yeller dawg".
That's a hot dog with mustard, Cheez Whiz and bacon bits.
(And only the fake Petroleum-byproduct-based bacon bits,
because real bacon fights the plastic taste of the CheezWhiz :9)

15. Ketchup is for French fries; mustard, onions, relish,

even chili, are all good for hot dogs, but not ketchup, IMO. But I don't mind if other people put ketchup on their hot dogs. It's a free country, sort of.

Ketchup, preferably Heinz on a hot-dog is the way I prefer 'em but German mustard or a plain Dijon only on my brats please. ...mmmm now I've got a hankerin for some:

18. This, I think, is the correct answer. Different toppings for different meat tubes
The classic ballpark hot dog is quite good with ketchup, and even a Polish sausage works well on a crusty roll with ketchup, etc. Bratwurst, however, call for good mustard and sauerkraut... :9

26. Disgusting. My wife used ketchup on hotdogs, and what she
doesen't finish, I give to the dog. Hot dogs are eaten with mustard, onions and relish, or a dill pickle slice, but ketchup is for hamburgers.
What's wrong with America?

29. In order of necessity, a hotdog should have either chili (with onions), or MUST have ketchup
If it does not have ketchup, it's just some yankee interpretation of a hot dog, and not the real thing.

There are a couple of things you can put on a hot dog with chili--onions, cheese, butter (if you don't care about the heart), jalepenos or other peppers. I don't prefer kraut, but I'm okay with it. Not ketchup or mustard--those must by law be kept away from hot dogs with chili.

But barring chili--which is really the only preferable way to eat a hotdog--ketchup is required. No ketchup, you should keep your weiner in its bag. After that, mustard, onions, and just about anything else is acceptable, but IT MUST HAVE KETCHUP.

And any of you with different opinions are just wrong. No shame in that, but you should seek help.

You also get bonus points if the dog is vegetarian, but that's a different battle. :)

In that order, so the slaw keeps the chili from burning the roof of my mouth. :-)

37. Re:Ketchup on hot dog
Ketchup on a hot dog is always tasty, but I personally feel
that a hot dog is just not the same without the mustard.

I like Billy Bee's honey mustard,or French's regular mustard.
