I'll also admit, I've been a fan since like 82, but, I'm listening to the new release as an album, and the first time around, wow. Great stuff.

1. I'm not fond of the first single, but i'm looking forward to the album
I probably won't have time to get/listen to it until the weekend, though :(

4. I heard the first couple songs over the speaker at Borders yesterday.
The second song, "Magnificent", sounded very strong. I'll be buying the CD today (U2 is one of those bands that I'll automatically buy their new work whenever it comes out.) Hopefully the rest of the album stands up.

5. I think it's so-so.
Sounds better than Atomic Bomb, but not quite as good as All That You Can't...

Still, it's in keeping with the return to form represented by those last couple albums after the horror of the Zooropa/Pop years.

7. Please don't bring up Pop and Zooropa.
Ugh.

That was the Lost Decade for me--I just didn't listen to U2 during that period.

So far, No Line is on a par with Achtung Baby, not great, somewhat uneven, but an interesting new sound.

10. I thought Pop was a very edgy, interesting, sarcastic take on commercialism.
I LURVED it. Especially "Miami."

16. But sarcastic takes on anything isn't U2
The band's core strength has always been its passion and its sometimes overly earnest idealism. Elvis Costello can handle the irony.

11. I never really got Pop, but for some reason I liked Zooropa more and more over the years

19. I've been listening to it non stop since yesterday...
I'm hearing a Pink Floyd vibe throughout the album. And some Zep-like guitar in some places. And then there's a bit of a Lou Reed thing happening too.

Overall I really like it. It has that epic movement in the music that gets me every time, fills me up the same way a gospel choir does.

6. So far, I'd say it's pretty good, not great. I'm still getting familiar
with it. A couple songs grabbed me from the get-go. I don't like the Boots single, but some other tracks are growing on me.

I haven't seriously listened to them is about 15 or so years, but I'll play the single on my show if anybody requests it.

13. It's a mixed bag.

I'm currently listening to it all the way through and there are some songs that get me (No Line on the Horizon, Magnificent, I'll Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight, Cedars of Lebanon) and some that are just too dull or throwaway (Get on Your Boots, Stand Up Comedian).

Lately I've been getting into their older stuff, and there aren't any real standout songs like you find on Boy or Joshua Tree. That and my favorite album is Achtung Baby, which was so completely fresh, that it's hard to top. There's no Even Better Than the Real Thing on here.

I don't know if I'm accustomed to their "middle age" sound yet, or if it still all sounds new.

It has a nice mixture of their anthemic material with a more nuanced style - it feels fresh and a little experimental at times.

Neko Case's new CD is also fantastic - don't listen to the often clueless IMO professional reviewers - it just might be my favorite from her.

I also picked up the double cd Boy re-release, with several unreleased tracks and some live material.

18. Mine should be coming from Amazon tomorrow
This is one of those albums where I want the physical CD instead of off of iTunes.

17. I'm a U2 fan, not hardcore...I thought it was subpar
A couple good songs, though the rest dont seem to do anything for me. Completely unlike the last two albums which I thought were both excellent.
