Here is a crazy story.
So...My wife's parents are clearing out their basement in anticipation of downsizing/retiring.
And they are sending us all these boxes of stuff. Pictures. Her mother's old school stuff. Old newspapers. Old toys. All kinds of junk. Some of it is cool (Life Magazine from after the Kennedy Assassination). Some of it is weird. (1976 Philadelphia Flyers calendar).
In the crates was an old wooden box with a lock. We didn't have a key. It sat in our kitchen for a week.
Last night, our friend was over and managed to pick the lock. (I make friends with people with special talents). In the box was a bunch of doll clothes that probably belonged to my wife's mother when she was a kid. It clearly came from the grandmother's house.
Also in the box was bank envelope...with $2000 in cash. $2 GRAND!!
We think her grandmother withdraw the money and hid it there for some reason and then got sick and died immediately after. (She literally got ill on a Friday and was dead of cancer in about a week). My grandfather grew up in the depression too, and he had money hidden all over his house. (Who knows...maybe in a year, I'll have money buried in the back yard. Everything old is new again).
That money was in the box until her grandfather died three years after the grandmoither...And then the box was in her parents' basement for ten years. And then we found it last night.
This is the kind of thing you read about.
