I cancelled my Direct TV subscription & I am amazed at the extra time I have.

I went to a free over the air antenna & now I only watch an hour of television a day. I had developed the bad habit of leaving the television on and trying to do other things. It was mostly inane programming that I did not need to see. I was wasting about 250 watts of power each hour the television was on as well as the 30 watts 24/7 from the receiver. I also cut out the 82 dollar a month bill (almost 1000 dollars a year).

To compensate for the lack of entertainment I joined blockbuster online for the occasional movie. I am going to enjoy this change.

1. I don't understand the 'leaving the tv on' thing.

It's mostly crap. I record what I like and try to find time to watch it... other than that... meh.

Oh I do leave it on for football (soccer) though. Glad I do cause I got to see Stoke equalize against Villa, which was fucking great.

2. It was a bad habit I had developed.

It wasn't on "all" the time but is was on most of the day on my days off when I was at home. I hate to think of all the power I wasted. I do know people who ALWAYS have it on, even when they sleep for the "white noise" effect. I don't need the "white noise" because I am out in the sticks.
