Gawd, I had the HOLY CRAP scared out of me last night!
I had a rough time for a while, and totally neglected any socialization for 3 or 4 weeks. (I am feeling better.) So last night, I thought I'd go visit the local ladies bar for a change of scenery, and thus help lift my spirits.

Background: There have been a rash or bar robberies in that area of town for a couple months now. The scary thing is, they are not happy with having the money turned over. They beat and injure staff and customers after they get the money!

What the hell was I thinking?

First, some guy fitting the description, walked in, saw the camera above the cash register, and walked right back out. Ruh Roh! That kinda creeped us out. So the back door was locked, with a note that one must use the front door.

Other suspicious things, like guys walking by and looking in. Every time we went out for a smoke, it looked like someone was watching, (casing) the place.

I was having a smoke later, and watched someone half block away walking around and looking into all the windows of the liquor store. He started walking toward me. Also the same car circled the block a couple times. There were people in the bar that work at a local jail. I ditched my smoke and went back in, and said, watch this.

We saw him walk a couple blocks away, and he kept going back and forth across the street, like he was checking every building. They felt that was suspicious enough to call the Police. They were there within 5 minutes, 4 cars.

Would you believe they found that same fucker right in front of the building when they pulled up? He must have doubled back. How'd he get back there so fast? And why did he come back there? He could not have walked back that fast. Did someone drive him back?

I said, fuck this crap, I am getting out of here. I was postponed by an Officer to tell what I saw. The bar was closed down at 10:00, and he walked me to my car.

Scared the piss outta me!

I'm a sissy. I don't like excitement!

I just didn't care for the responses.

I was upset, (I still am) and did not care to be belittled from whence I came.

29. I'm glad you explained the problem to me now.
I'm sorry I made you upset. Really. Believe me when I say my intent was never to belittle where you came from or anything else about you. I just didn't do good job of being funny.

I have no beef with Nebraska. I never lived there but I traveled through there several times many years ago. I think it's beautiful country. I like the plains states. I like anywhere there is a lot of open sky. I live in Pennsylvania and hiking through the mountains always frustrates me in that I just can't see. Surrounded by trees close by on all sides with only little patches of sun and sky. If I could have chosen my birthplace it would have been west of the Mississippi.

It wouldn't have mattered what state you were from though. I was just trying to come up with some silly stereotype from whatever state it was and have some fun with it. I wanted to give you a laugh. There was never any thought of insulting or belittling you at all. I have a lot of faults and flaws, a lot, but being mean and belittling to people is not one of them.

I'll blame this on myself. This isn't the first that trying to be funny has backfired on me. Humor among strangers, especially on a message board, can be easily taken the wrong way. No voice inflection, no facial expression, and no experience with the person. Sometimes I like to be good-naturedly sarcastic. Entirely benign, but easy to screw up on a message board. I'll just have to be more careful.

I think I understand where you're coming from and I hope I've made myself clear to you as well. I hope we're square now. :hi:

30. I was upset about an incident last night. It scared me. Thus, my OP.
I didn't expect it to be funny. But perhaps I am too hypersensitive.

You don't have to apologize about Nebraska. It's boring, and sucks, LOL! My only beef was the suggestion that we are all dipshits that have never seen past a cornfield. I've lived in the city my entire life. And would never consider getting, ... well ... whatever. In a damned field.

We are fine, I accept your way of apology.

I am just a bit rattled with the Police interviews last night and today. These guys have been breaking heads and shooting people. I saw something coming down, and perhaps prevented some people getting hurt. And they (Police) perhaps have a handle on this particular crime wave now. I gave them one, maybe he will talk.

3. Stop it
You're messin' with my Nebraska stereotype. :-(

Liquor stores, violent robberies(of bars!), ditching smokes, and "fuck this crap", are just jarring to me. Keith Jackson never talked about any of this while doing Cornhusker games. Everything was nice 'n' WASPy circ. 1958.

However, you didn't say "pig", or even "cop". You said "police" and "officer". And the nice officer was kind enough to walk you to your car. There now, that's much more comfortable. :-)

So much suspicious stuff, and I'd not care to be shot! I just wanted the hell out of there! They made me stay to explain what I saw. I wasn't in any trouble. He took my report and walked me to my car.

They arrested that guy. How'd he get back there so fast, and why?

I saw the signs. Something strange, seemed to me.

I told others, they made the call. He was a couple blocks down the street by then. By the time the Police arrived, he was back in front of the building! How'd he get back so quick?? They found reason to arrest him.

Scared the piss outta me!

We watched him, he was several blocks down the street, walking.

When the Police showed up a few minutes later they nabbed him in front of the building! How'd he do that? Someone drove him back!

Police asked to question me again today. I think they are on to that robbery thing that's been going on.

Creeps me out!

42. No, it wasn't fun. I don't care about being robbed, I'd hand over my cash.
But this particular gang is busting heads even after they get the cash.

I'm not even afraid of death. If my name is on the bullet, oh well.

But I won't run in front of a bullet on purpose.

I guess my instincts work well. Whew!

Suffice to say, I'll be skipping that one for a bit.

It should go without saying, but I'm glad you're OK.

I know there have been problems at the bars near Dodge in Dundee with patrons getting stuck up on the way to their cars. As a practical matter, I have to travel all around townin my job, but I'm doing my best to avoid places near, for example, the 5000 blocks of Ames.

I live out west, and a TierOne was stuck up less tnan two blocks from my house. Sign of the times, I reckon.
