I need a ruling from the jury
Would it be so wrong to knock on all my neighbours' doors to see if they have any leftovers of the yummy smelling food? I say it's their fault for allowing the aroma to enter the common areas.

1. I think that might work. And they'd be flattered.
:)

2. My dear yvr girl...
Unless you know your neighbors extremely well...

I would hesitate...

Can't say I blame you, though!

3. I'd recognize a couple if I saw them on the street
Most I couldn't pick out of a line-up

4. go over and ask for the recipe then use the "big eyes" trick and see
if they offer some to you.

5. I wouldn't.
Tell them how much the aroma appeals to you, ask them what it is and if you can have the recipe. If they have leftovers and want to offer them, they will. If someone came over to my house asking for food, even if I planned on eating the leftovers the next day I'd probably feel put on the spot and give away the leftovers, but I would be very hesitant to answer the door the next time that person knocked. Most of us have had bad experiences with giving an inch to a neighbor who takes a mile, so if in your position I would just assume that such a thing has happened to your neighbor and act accordingly.

6. Here is a subtle technique that has always worked for my sister-in-law's cat:
Stand outside your neighbors' windows looking hungry and pathetic. You're welcome. :hi:
