Ugli fruit is AWESOME!!
I just tried it for the first time tonight, and it was GREAT. Tart like a tangerine, but almost the size of a grapefruit. If a local produce department carries them, make sure you get some before the growing season is over!

1. Once you go ugli, you'll never go back.
There's got to be a better joke in there somewhere...

2. The great thing about ugli fruit is....
You don't have to worry about someone stealing it, and if they do, who cares?

3. They are a cross between a tangerine and a grapefruit
I can usually get them in the spring in my area.

4. I think I may have had an unripe one.
I did not care for the taste. It reminded me of a waxy, weak grapefruit in flavor, it was nothing at all like a tangerine. Is there a way to know which one to pick at the market and if it is ripe enough to eat?

5. Here's what I did...
I tried to find ones that felt heavy. I know that's pretty inexact, but if they feel like they've got a little heft to them and they don't have as much green, they're probably ripe. I don't know why people say to cut them in half and eat them like grapefruit. I think they're really good peeled and eaten in sections.
