jokes
I have to give a little speech, which isn't my favorite thing to do. Does anyone have a few cute, nice jokes? I believe that's a good way to start.

1. What's your speech about?
Is there a PowerPoint involved or is it just you and the audience? Who is your audience? How long to you have to talk.

In my experience it's better to just cut to the chase and let funny stuff happen spontaneously, but my talks go to academic and bureaucratic audiences. Pre-rehearsed jokes tend to sound canned to me. YMMV.

8. Ah, gotcha.
If you have a joke, make sure that it's contextual. Can you talk about funny or weird things that have happened while you're working with your volunteers? Look for things they relate to in the experience of volunteering. Real-life examples work better than "canned" jokes when you're talking about an experience you all share. Make sure it's stuff that's unusual or just plain funny (maybe you all laughed at it at the time) and not something that might hurt someone's feelings.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great.

2. hard to do on demand - how about
"and then there is my uncle. He was so dumb. He drove all the way to Florida to see Disney World. When he was almost there he saw a sign that said "DISNEY WORLD LEFT." So he turned around and drove back home."

4. I collect duck jokes
So this guy walks into the doctor's office with this big white duck on his head.

The doctor looks up and says, "Yes, sir, can I help you?"

And the duck says,

"Yeah, can you get this guy off my butt?"

10. "had a terrible day golfing Wednesday. One of our foursome
died on the third green. The rest of the day it was 'hit the ball, drag Fred; hit the ball, drag Fred; hit the ball, drag Fred."
