3. Oh, does that start tonight?
I knew it was March, but I couldn't remember when. Yet another in the list of approximately 20 billion concerts I'd like to go to this weekend, but can't due to a previous work commitment. (Not that I had even the remotest chance of getting tickets.)

:loveya:

When he was doing his "thing" in upstate NY, I saw him a couple of times. He was a regular at a local coffee shop. I went in one morning with my daughter and I guess he saw that look of recognition on my face. He put his finger to his lips - shhhh.. I smiled and winked, and sat in the booth behind him. My daughter asked why he shushed us. I explained that he was a famous musician and that he was trying to enjoy his breakfast without anybody bothering him. She then turned around and put her finger to her lips at him (she was 7 at the time). As we left, he gave us that awesome Trey smile and wished us a pleasant day. Needless to say, my kid thought that was the bee's knees.

21. Nice review....
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090307/ap_en_mu/music_phish_concert_review

HAMPTON, Va. – Phish caught another keeper at the Hampton Coliseum when it mattered most, blasting a five-year breakup into the past with a crisp, focused show that proved the Vermont foursome is refreshed and ready for the road again.

To be fair, this wasn't the fearless or flawless Phish of the 1990s pre-breakup heyday. But on a Friday night that buzzed and crackled with anticipation, their missteps were few, the jamming was spirited and the mood on stage mostly playful and loose — a far cry from the emotional and musical shambles of their "farewell" show some five years prior.

They opened by nailing the hairpin transitions and turbulent passages of their most challenging material: the old stuff. "Fluffhead," an ecstatic prog-rocker and major crowd pleaser, kicked things off by staking a claim from deep within the vast Phish songbook; they held that hallowed ground in the first set with "Divided Sky" and "David Bowie," also from their 1989 debut album "Junta."

But a most encouraging sign was that Phish clearly aims to keep innovating; an a capella "jam" that typically launches from the end of "You Enjoy Myself" (another "Junta" track) was one of the best such vocal segues the band's ever concocted. The odd meshing of mouth-sounds, beatboxing and caterwauling has historically been a thing of throwaway whimsy; on Friday, it quickly developed into a nighmarish wall of what came to sound like deep, spooky electronica gone wickedly wrong.

They also rejiggered the happy-go-lucky "Water in the Sky," changing it from astral bluegrass into an earthier, more dance-friendly shuffle; and debuted the heavy caliber rocker "Backwards Down the Number Line," a strong candidate for inclusion on their upcoming album.

52. Another great review...
On Spot for sure: http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/ace-cowboys-phish-hampton-review-trey-rod-and-the-three-jeters/

To accurately describe what it’s like having the popular rock band Phish back on the Hampton Coliseum stage, let me steal a quip from that lovable ol’ drunkard Arthur when he tells Linda about owning a yacht: “It doesn’t suck.”

This weekend was absolutely top-drawer, a once-in-a-lifetime gala event. This weekend was all about energy, and not in that typical hippie bullshit geodes and quartz kind of way; not “energy, brah.” This weekend was about everyone’s stories being interwoven with their own, connected by being part of something bigger, a participatory séance, the resurrection of a lost world. This weekend was about thousands of people at the exact same time falling collectively back in love with something they once adored so much.

Page is getting most of the accolades, and deservedly so. I’m not sure if he’s louder in the mix than ever before, but he played magnificently this weekend. Fishman and Gordon, as well. I made a joke on my Twitter page that Trey is now the worst player in the band, though I really don’t believe that. Page, Mike and Fishman clearly all had better weekends than Big Red, but there’s an unfair burden on Trey – no matter how well or poorly Page and Mike and Fish play, all eyes will always be on Crimson Dago. Everything he does on stage is magnified and parsed and agonized over.

Trey’s got the unenviable task of playing the hero or the goat every single night. It’s like he’s the A-Rod on a team full of Jeters. He’s become Trey-Rod. Let’s take him out from under the microscope for a while. He fucking nailed every single melodic, chirpy jam on the run; he just needs to find his sea legs on the so-called Type II jams. And he will. Anyone really want to go on record and doubt him? Just say so.

When I wrote that story I told you above about my daughter and Trey, I remembered this part later.....

That day, she asked me to play some Phish for her so she knew who the man who shushed her was. I put on Reba, figuring it was a catchy little tune. My kid ran around for HOURS singing it - it was so cute.

She has been enjoying these shows too - she is 9 now - and she was soooo excited when she heard Reba from the Sat. show. Now I have to upload the shows to her mp3 player for her :D

Especially Big fat Furry Creature From Mars.....They would bop to that all day long. Reba another fave and antelope, it was like they were jsut aiting for the words "Run like and Antelope" almost as if they were actually playing it.

So from a critical point of view, did you think the Reba was not quite IT, on Sat?

46. IMHO, the Sat. show is the weakest as far as musical performance goes.
I love the set list, but I think it was a little off.

Who knows? After Fluffhead and Stash (still my fave song from all three shows so far) on Friday night, they set a pretty high standard for themselves.

I love the DWD from Sunday, and wow - While My Guitar Gently Weeps was spectacular. I like Stash the best because the song itself is very near and dear to me - and they just cleaned up with it.
