Outside of Ugly fencing and a hunting rifle how do I get rid of all these deer.
It's planning a garden time... (as soon as the snow melts)

Now last years garden feed the deer quite well and they have multiplied to about eight regulars with an occasional tourist.

Is there a humane or at least no messy way of keeping the deer out and our victory garden safe?

(Our city forbids shooting the deer within city limits and I'm pretty sure the deer all know this)

9. I have heard that peeing around the perimeter can work.
Maybe that is for wolves.
Have a beer party and just have everyone urinate around the perimeter.

11. You could plant stuff the deer won't eat, like rhodedendrons.
Of course, when I planted some last year, the dear walked past everything else to munch them to the ground!

Alternatively, plant something the deer really like, well away from the stuff you want.

12. How about a sprinkler system hooked up to a motion detector.
I've heard it works pretty well. Every time the dear get close, the water turns on and soaks them. The surprise spooks them and they run away. And, your garden gets watered too.

You might also hook lights or something that makes noise to the motion detector too, to augment the water in scaring them.

13. A radio
I put a radio where I had new trees planted. The sound of human voices kept them away. We don't have any neighbors and it doesn't rain much here.

14. i think they know where the good places to eat are
and they keep coming back there.

So as long as you are providing food, I don't think they are going anywhere.

I don't think you could do it without a fence.

My mother in law has tall chicken wire type enclosure to let the light in but keep the deers out.
They live in the country and she has a huge garden.

15. Predator urine, applied liberally early in the season and then after each rain.
It stinks but it's better than most other deterrents. The ugly fencing is really the best defense.

18. Oh, your fencing isn't so horrible. A bit more training, practice your thrust and parry...
and you'll get a deer yet.

Still, I must admit, fencing does seem to be an odd way to hunt deer. A good challenge though!
