Doggies!
The springer mix is Bailey, the svelte dog with the black face is Maddy, and the ginger dog is Pippi.

1. Maddy looks like she's Japanese Akido and Irish Setter.
Very international! All three dogs are absolutely adorable!

2. Too funny!

She's been called boxer, German shepherd, border collie, chow, poodle, terrier, beagle, Italian greyhound, golden retriever, and basically anything else one can imagine.

8. Well, I'm guess akido based on my roommate's dog's markings.
You can see he's got the same kind of eye mask as Maddy:

But then, maybe Maddy has raccoon in her? I guessed irish setter b/c of her very lovely fringed tail.

The other dog in my shot is my beloved Bear. The humane society told me he was chocolate lab and german shepherd, and I think that's about right, but people are always thinking he's pit bull or chow!

13. Maddy's heritage is one of life's mysteries
I don't know if you can tell from the photos, but she's only 30 lbs, which throws an additional layer of WTF into things. :D

11. Bailey doesn't have a tail either
This is a big ranching area, and docking is common. :(

15. Someone docked an English Setter's tail?!?!?
Boy, talk about getting carried away. I never could figure out why any dog's tail gets docked!

There's a discussion of this in Anna Sewell's Black Beauty - someone takes away the stable dog's pups and returns them with their tails and ears docked "to make them look perky". Ms. Sewell did not approve.

16. He's a Springer/Golden Retriever mix
and his mom works on a ranch so his tail was docked.

Yeah, it's a bummer.

17. Maddy is very playful, yes
If by "playful" you mean this morning she got a thing of glue, bit into it, and spilled it all over the porch. x(
