3. Tampa is getting an Ikea? Why???
Well on a more serious note are not furniture stores dropping like flies around there as it is?

I don't see people buying a new living room in this economy.

18. IKEA is more than just a furniture store.
It is an entire home living store. Yes they have furniture, but they also have household linens, kitchenware, cookware, cooking gadgets, lamps, etc.

Yes, I love IKEA.

4. It's the "The Empire Strikes Back" of the retail furniture world.
People will camp out for a week before it opens.

Don't hold it against the store, though. They are pretty cool. They set high ecological standards, and are quick to respond when they screw up on them.

Plus light bulbs, power strips and batteries and other household crap.

Speaking of batteries, where's my present?

12. Seriously, those throw blankets you use for teh puppehz are like $3.
Which is worth doing even if the layout of the store and the bright Swedish Modern design might cause you to claw your own eyes out. Which is a real possibility.

13. Same thing happened here too
When Detroit got an IKEA, the local news talked about it endlessly. I don't get why it's such a big deal. I've been there a few times and I don't see why people were going crazy for the store.

Its gotta be some wierd size that doesn't come in standard hex sets. Something like a 7/75" or a 2.3mm.

Poor guy, as if his lame surfer dude first name weren't bad enough, he gets his middle name from a tool that gets lost in the bottom of the toolbox detritus.

Damn thing isn't even in Austin. It's in Crypto-fascist-ville.

The one here is in Tukwila. I like saying Tukwila. :)

19. IKEA has its own fan group with a website - IKEAfans.com.
Great group of people totally obsessed with IKEA kitchens. I am one of them - my kitchen is built of IKEA cabinets. Cheap, well made and they did not out gas formaldehyde.

31. I did not know they were so rare until I read it on DU.
Seriously.

I did not know there were only 24 stores in the whole U.S.

I used to live about 2 miles from the one in Houston.

35. It's nice to have an IKEA nearby
Edited on Sat Mar-07-09 08:52 AM by fujiyama
The furniture is relatively decent and cheap and the resale value isn't all that bad either. I just had to get rid of some stuff I got from IKEA since I'm moving.

But isn't it all basically a bunch of Chinese made junk? I'd be interested in knowing more about the ecological, environmental, and labor standards of the company...

Either way, I wish there was stuff made here...It's harder and harder to find.

36. We're headed there today - the one in Montreal, of course.
The s.o. has decided to replace the perfectly good overhead lamp in the dining area, and since I'm not allowed to turn on the one we have, I caved. :P
