I thought it was too long, I thought it was too faithful to the novel and I just didn't get that "OK, I want to see it again soon" feeling. I think $100,000,000 may be a struggle, since the fanbase went this weekend, not the public.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE did $67,000,000 it's opening weekend.

1. Interesting to hear your opinion on this matter.

I'm following the gross on this film just out of curiosity. Personally, I didn't think sixty million was all that bad for a March weekend, but maybe it is. I have not seen the film, nor am I aware of the graphic novel. But I'm interested, all the same, in how the film performs.

Thanks for raising this post.

13. For March, those numbers are quite good.
Why they didn't wait until Memorial Day weekend or thereabouts seems odd to me, but that's not a bad take at all for this time of year.

2. I haven't seen either movie
but, didn't Quantum of Solace open the weekend before Thanksgiving? And, James Bond has a built in fanbase from 50 years of books and movies.

3. The "new" James Bond, for us old folks, is not James Bond
Edited on Sun Mar-08-09 09:13 PM by DainBramaged
and since so many of the fans of the 'new' James Bond are under 40, and vaguely remember Sean Connery from his role in that dragon movie as the voice of the dragon when they were kids (Dragonheart), or in Indiana Jones as Indy's dad, I don't agree with your comparison. And Thanksgiving weekend is the big weekend end of year. Opened November 14–16, 2008, a very 'dead' weekend.

8. There is only one Bond
And his name is Connery...Sean Connery.

I saw "Goldfinger" yesterday....still holds up well.

10. I still haven't seen any of the Danial Craig ones...
... but from what I've heard from people who have, even the ones who liked Craig in Casino Royale still didn't like Quantum of Solace.

4. I never heard of it until just recently.
And I'll probably never see this but I don't know that a movie can be too faithful to the book from which they are drawn. I hate most movies that are made from books because they aren't faithful. I want them done right if they're going to do them.

5. This one was faithful to the punctuation, which to me didn't translate well to the screen.
The ONLY movie I remember enjoying that was faithful to the book was Das Boot, and that was 25+ years ago. The movie should have been done (IMHO) to draw new fans rather than please only old ones.

6. I haven't seen the movie
So I'm just speaking generally. But I've read Watchmen and it's a complex story, flips back and forth in time a lot and has a lot of nuance. I can see how being too faithful to it would make it drag or become confusing. They're two different mediums and you approach them in different ways.

7. Sounds like a pretty good weekend
Most movie producers would take a $55 million opening any time.

11. I'll most likely see it again in the theaters...
I'll most likely see it again in the theaters, and eventually purchase it on DVD.

I guess some people like one thing while other people like another thing altogether... just one of the many cool things about humanity.
