I am being invaded!
on two fronts. One front, let's call it the eastern one, is filled with hate for what is happening daily in this country.

The western front provides images and thoughts of personal happiness.

Which is an illusion? Which affects me more?

How to repel the invaders?

1. no illusion here
We're all angry at what's happening to our beautiful nation but I would say a positive attitude would do more to change this country. My immediate goals are to encourage John Kerry to run on a good progressive platform and empty the trash out of the white house.

2. Look at the parts you can control
Sometimes, things in life are out of our control, but there's always something we can do.
Look at the eastern front and try to do whatever you can do to make things better. For most of us, it's little things- recycle, vote, volunteer for something to help someone else, and lots of other possibilities. This is harder, but small contributions can sometimes, unexpectedly, make big changes.

As for the Western front, that's "in theory" easier. Figure out what you want and work to take the steps you need to take in order to obtain them. Sometimes these steps aren't quick or easy, and sometimes you face surprises or challenges along the way, but we all do have some control over our destiny. Look at want you want, but be open to new possibilities as they arise and if they are unexpected, see what value they could add to everything before you miss what could be a possible opportunity.

Best wishes n all your endeavors. I know the feeling. :)
