Went downhill skiing for the first time this weekend
at age 42. One more thing to cross off my list. My wife enters all kinds of contests, rarely wins, but this one time won a free hotel stay with lift tickets.

2. Yep. Made the South Park reference to our instructor.
He got a kick out of it.

3. Way to go! Hope you had a great time, and
may this be the beginning of a lifelong avocation.

Only trouble with skiing is I never seem to get enough of it!

4. Did you enjoy it?
I am not going very often but I love it nevertheless. And I am definitely not really good at it :)

5. Yes, we enjoyed it.
Mrs. Jimbo fell on the coveyor belt and bruised her butt pretty good. She was a bit gun shy after that.

After a couple of hours I no longer found the bunny hill challenging, but she was getting cold and I was tiring a bit. I wasn't sure what other hill would be challening, yet safe, so we called it a day.

We may be back in the future. It's a tad expensive, however.

8. Damned jealous here--
I was only able to ski for a couple of years ( also in my early 40's) before my knee refused to continue---old hockey injuries; the skiing just aggravated them, didn't cause 'em...I loved it and miss it. And once you get the hang of it, you don't have to be an expert to thoroughly enjoy it ( I never got past intermediate level but still bought season passes for Sandia Peak, and Santa Fe both years I did it-) Also, consider a lesson or two if that's something you can afford; I did that and it was worth it.

9. I love to ski but haven't gone since I moved to California
I'd love to try western mountains but got spoiled in Vermont where I had a ski area about 20 minutes from my house and got a free season pass and 3 dollar ski rentals for driving the local public school kids to their lessons.

Driving four hours only to pay over a hundred bucks a day plus food and lodging just doesn't work for me after that. :(

Hope you had fun! :hi:

11. I dropped out of ski school.
Went downhill skiing in my late 30s.
Park City, Utah.

Like everything else I try for the first time, I read up on it.
What hit me: If you ski when you're tired, that's when accidents happen.

OK.
Late in the afternoon of my first day of ski school, going down an intermediate hill, my knees started to shake.
"That's it", I thought.
I'm done.
Cruisin' for a brusein'.
"See y'all in the bar."

Later I decided that skiing wasn't something I wanted to pay money to do.
:-)

12. woo hoo!!
I love skiing!! so glad you found a wonderful new hobby. You both look very natural on those skis and I'm sure she'll love it the next time you go. I've fallen so many times getting off the lifts - many s bruised butt- but it's so worth it.
