21. Or just feral
We had a few kitties react that way to us in one of the shelters I worked at. When they do that, its a pretty good sign that your gonna have to sedate, fix the bits that need fixing, and pass them on to someone with a farm or some such where they can stay far away from the people and live on their own terms.

9. That is sickening!
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 07:09 AM by Maeryanne
I knew I would not like it before viewing it, yet I had to be certain! D'oh!

Any animal that is clearly distressed, hurting, unwell {some pictures of "shaved pussies" from this site quickly come back hauntingly to mind :( } just does not make for humour. Yes, we may laugh at the antics of postanaesthesia {I was a child :) } but to then go and submit those images for some kind of online kudos is just plain evile! Tell me, those felines were NOT happy were they? I can still see their sad faces ... :(

28. You are absolutely right, Maeryanne.
No matter what the cause of it, an animal in distress in not funny in the least.

Welcome to DU. :hi:

8. That has been posted here before.
I don't mean to be rude about it, but it's not funny.

That poor cat has been abused. No normal kitten would get that hostile over human interaction. Trying to be fed, watered, or whatever.

It makes me sad. Not laughing here. :-(

10. Who put soiled litter in your Cheerios? That cat could also
just be feral, which would also explain its wild behavior.

So let's not jump to conclusions and rain on the kitteh parade... :-)

11. I agree some feral cats are incredibly hostile to people----
My cats WERE feral and when found there was a third cat that I did NOT adopt because he WAS hostile towards people....Also some cats are just grumpy like people. My sister had a cat that well...even though had a nice life was scary mean to outsiders, even people like me who came over on a regular basis...Cats don't have to be abused to have bad tempers, just like people..

13. I have a "snarly butt". He's always been afraid of every little change and new person.
He was feral. After all these years, he's never felt that hostile or afraid.

He just goes and hides in the basement, LOL!

15. Don't get me wrong-- I find NOTHING funny about animal abuse.
In fact, IIRC, abusing animals is a red flag of sociopathy.

24. Please take a deep breath
It's clear that the cat is in a good place even it it's not happy. I've seen Evita hiss like that, probably because she's a feral cat who doesn't want to ever leave my house again but doesn't like to be touched either.

17. I have to agree with you - I've worked with TNR groups for cats here in Delaware
and the ferals can act just as nasty. Unfortunately all we can do is just neuter them and return them to where we found them.

25. I am real glad to see
that there are folks with functioning Hearts at DU! O8) Seems there a few more at YouTube as well :)

Then, I got to thinking, that perhaps WE were being played, and as much a part of that cat's pain in a way. Like how the firestarter may be amongst the stunned crowd, admiring their handiwork, and all the while they are privately gloating at the scale of their very public destruction.

Some of the comments here seem to support my musings, that this video has been circulated previously ...

Still, I agree that cruelty to animals, and exploitation of any kind is not cool, funny, remotely clever or even vaguely socially acceptable.

30. Welcome to DU, Maeryanne!
Thank you for you very kind comments!

I understand and appreciate your point of view. But I don't think the original poster (OP) was trying to play us like that. She's a long term member with good credentials, and I happen to know she is a kitty lover too.

She and others thought it was funny. I did not think it was funny. I've seen that video before, and the longer version. To me, it stinks to high hell of an abused animal. That does not amuse me or make me laugh. I may seem too high strung or anal about it to some, but that is how I feel and I won't apologize for it.

Per usual on DU, sometimes reasonable people can disagree. This is a good example; some thought it was funny, and others were offended. That's the way it is here. We just have to accept that.

I hope you stick around, and enjoy your stay here.

31. Thanks!
for the heads up! No sense "putting out fires with gasoline! ... " {Hmmm, seems I have a theme! ;) } AND, as a newbie, I do not intend to offend {rhyming crimes, now as well! ;) } :silly: :+ :toast:

Perhaps my circumspection was not ;) and my target is really the individual/s who put together such media.

Thanks for your Welcome, also! :hi:

29. We had a cat for 3 yrs and one day she began to behave that way.
She was a sweet loving cat until she fell from a window sill after another cat came up outside and looked at her. The sill was but 18" off the floor. That began a 3 month horror from hell with her screaming and shrieking like that cat in the video.

She had hip spurs and the fall caused her extreme pain. Even after surgery, her pain didn't cease and each time she'd use the litter box she'd scream like that, or sometimes if she had to go, she'd crawl under my daughter's bed and look exactly like that cat shrieking and screaming.

RIP Sammy
