I was watching old episodes of Emergency! recently...
And I noticed that every time there's a cop, he's wearing a helmet. What the fuck's up with that? I could understand a motorcycle cop wearing a helmet, but an average everyday patrol officer wearing a helmet on duty? What the fuck?

1. The seventies were a rough time... now if someone could explain why
they send giant fire trucks on Ambulance calls... (Not on the show mind you but in real life. I know there aren't many fires and you guys are bored senseless but the truck ain't needed. No heart attack victim requires 2000 gallons of high pressure water.)

2. Because paramedics are usually also firefighters?
IIRC, paramedics originally had to also be firefighters.

7. yes, I can... and you will understand too
it is a manpower thing... sometimes it can take several people to carry a large person, of which there are more and more of requiring assistance... also, you can't split up an engine company... if they had to go to a fire from a medical call they would be pretty useless without their truck, wouldn't they?

having worked for a long time in a non-fire EMS system (NYC EMS, back in the bad old days) there were many times I wished we had more help on scene.
