Easily the most disturbing video game music ever. Happy nightmares.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYb9kSCkjE8&feature=PlayList&p=332149E0712BB093&index=0

This is the final boss music from my favorite video game, Earthbound. The battle itself is so unsettling it's emotionally draining. Gigyas randomly says stuff like 'It hurts' 'I'm happy' or chanting your name over and over again...at one point an image of a baby appears in the pattern. If you listen closely you can hear stuff like 'Help me' in the music, if it can really be called music.

Added fun: The entire fight was based on a traumatic childhood experience had by one of the designers. Apparently, he wandered into a movie theater where he saw a movie that showed a woman being raped and murdered. Gigyas' dialogue was based on THAT. Combine that, the baby imagery, the initial image of Gigyas' face distorted in pain, terror, and insanity, and the music...

I've played many a frightening game, but on many levels, I consider Gigyas to be the most disturbing boss in a video game ever. Any kid who played this must've had nightmares for months.

Oh yeah, enjoy!

1. Oh and I'll add that you can't even beat him normally.
You have to pray.
And pray, and pray.

4. Hmm. Interesting switchover from weird ambiant, to suddenly calm and almost childlike... then
suddenly back into the fray.

8. The battle goes through multiple stages...the music changes throughout.
It gets more frantic and panicky as Gigyas starts to weaken, and that's when the real freaky shit happens, as he starts to get desperate.

5. Creepy.
But not as creepy as Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for the Game Cube. That game gave me nightmares. :scared:

6. I'll still take 'based on traumatic childhood experiences of rape and murder' for the win...

:hi:
And the protagonists are kids...facing something incredibly disturbing which is far beyond their comprehension. At one point, Gigyas' main henchman taunts them, saying 'Why don't you pray?' Because there's no way you can fight it. It's so powerful you can't even comprehend what it's doing to you.
So you do pray. It's all you can do. It's all you have left.
I guess you have to play it to understand, but it is worth it.

EDIT: I've been wanting to check out Eternal Darkness for awhile...maybe I should...

12. I played that game when I was a kid. Freaky and disturbing at the same time.
Count me in as a kid who got nightmares from that game! :scared:
