In the fall, we go to a farm and get a half dozen of each.

They also sell apple cider hot dogs, which I've never tried, because I don't eat meat.

Edited on Wed Mar-11-09 07:29 PM by hippywife
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruller

The real French style crullers that taste wonderfully eggy. Without the stupid chocolate frosting they show in the example.
Since almost no one makes them anymore, I have to fall back on just a plain old cake donut.

I've heard of these mythical things called Vegan Doughnuts, but I just haven't craved them enough to order them from online and have them shipped to me. :P

Someday, Babycakes (a vegan bakery here in NYC) will add doughnuts to their menu and I'll order some. Until then I'm happy with cupcakes, muffins, tarts, and other goodies. :9

Given the number of Maple Donut shops in the Harrisburg, PA area.

I also like donuts from the Fractured Prune (yes, that's a real donut shop):

They just added one in the area where I grew up and those things are delish. They make them hot and to order.

31. Homemade! I make my own because I'm allergic to eggs and most store-bought and doughnut-shop
doughnuts have eggs in them. So I make my own and they're pretty good.

Before I got the allergy, I LOVED those French cruller things.

34. Depends on if I'm in the mood for something light and airy, or heavy and dense.
If I want a fried ball of air, I opt for the malasada:

But if I want something a bit more filling, I like andagi:

However, since these aren't readily available around these parts, I'll usually have either a glazed or crumb cake doughnut.

Or chocolate glazed with creme filling.

There was a donut shop in my hometown that made chocolate glazed donuts with Oreo or marshmallow crusts on top of the glazing. Utterly delicious.
