Are these the coolest glasses EVER???????
I need to get new glasses; apparently the frames I chose a couple of years ago are too dorkish (according to my Dutch design colleague who also is a style maven and quite frank -- all for my own good, dontcha know).

Yesterday, I was looking in the window of my optician and saw the absolute _cutest_ round, brainyesque frames that I just love.

What say y'all? Yes, or no? (Yes, I'm aware that my face is way too round for these frames, but I really, really, really LOVE them. x( )

Current frames:

2. My dear Heidi!
Honestly, those are cute frames...

But I like your current ones a lot!

I think they suit you, the old ones, I mean...

I guess I'd need to see you wearing the new ones to be able to really judge...

You have a beautiful face!

5. I like them, too! But Rolph isn't the first person who has commented on my glasses.
My friend, Davide, also thinks they make me look like a capital dork! I think most people who see me regularly in my glasses want me to go to something more square-ish, and THAT I just cannot do. So harsh. x(

Thank you for your kind words. I have a face without makeup -- the freckles provide pigment, though.

79. Interestingly...
Edited on Fri Mar-13-09 10:03 AM by Chan790
the most-perfunctory search for diamond or base-up triangle (face shapes), warm tone (based on complexion, eye and hair color) and female...suggests that your correct eyeglass shape is either cat's-eye (but a slightly narrower than standard cat's-eye), square (or slightly rectangular but not the in-vogue wide rectangles) or something rimless and slightly ovular with a flattened upper edge. (That'd be close to your current shape...which is an out-of-fashion sort of a walnut or heart shape and technically the perfect shape for your face.)

The round one's aren't terrible...they're just not quite the right shape for your face. Round frames make narrow oblong heads look rounder and fuller. Think Stanley Tucci in The Devil Wears Prada.

Those exact frames would actually work on you though...you just want to avoid anything really wide or with decorative temples as it'll make you look much wider across the eye-line which is already the widest part of your face. Edit: Ironically, that seems to be the very shape your friends think you should get.

I am unusual, maybe, or pitiable, maybe, but gorgeous -- never. Cute I can accept, with thanks, with the caveat that a round face and freckles make ANYONE look younger.

Thank you for indulging my NEED for these frames.

(Made it to 50 - I'm glad about that).

I was scared to death waiting on getting the glasses, as I wasn't convinced they would look ok. I followed the nice lady's advice, and I think it turned out OK.

Turns out my first instinct on what would be OK was right.

You won't look like a dork.

34. Oh, Heidi, Heidi, Heidi...
you're giving up glasses that your fashionista friend maintains are dorky -- and you trust this assessment, from what I can tell -- only to replace them with glasses that even you admit are "brainyesque"?

C'mon now! :)

I had to get frames myself recently. I went with a half-frame, so that my glasses aren't dominating my face. Specifically, I went with these:
http://www.eyefine.com/d/details.aspx?netsku=66023029127359120

Anyway, I'd recommend something a little more oblong, and a little less thick. Come out from behind your glasses!

40. SteppingRazor, "you are beautiful and angular, and you disturb me to the point of insanity."
However, I -- Heidi -- am neither beautiful nor angular, and I don't think I can support an oblong frame, unfortunately. (I don't mind brainyesque -- but my friends, Rolph, and Davide will think I'm a dork no matter what. Rolph even suggested ORANGE frames for me. Like my hair doesn't already contribute a lifetime of orange to my persona. )

80. Those are the ones I like best too.
Possibly because I have a small collection of old and new rulers myself. The old wooden ones are my favorites, and the brass hinged folding wooden ruler in particular, so of course I like those frames. I'd put them on a sculpture, if I sculpted. I used to have a 4.5 foot figure of plaster casting wrap (eventually succumbed to atmosphere and then gravity)that those would look great on. I used to like dressing that guy up.

We seem to share a taste for whacked-out art projects. I also like that you 'don't mind being perceived as a little odd'. Those are always the people that interest me.

71. Too round???
That's my biggest concern. But I really hate the boxy frames that everyone's wearing these days. CMW has some of those boxy new frames, and he looks really cute in them, but they just seem too harsh for my face. x(

Like these: http://www.framesdirect.com/framesfc/Ralph_Lauren-nhlf-pr-l.html

Even the rounder frames look small and boxy. :scared:

73. ok...
Yes, they are TOO Round and Harry Potterish. I see you in something stylish and classic. Referring to the ones from the link, maybe you should try:

5001, 5004, 5007 (close, right) 5011, 5017 (also close, right)

And Yes, do try on some ones that seem Silly and do try on ones that the salesperson suggest. Have fun and post a pic of you with the new ones.

You will be lovely no matter ;)

77. go for plastic around the lenses
not metal...more options, cooler options. If you want a classic look with subtle cool look at Robert Marc frames. You pretty much have to see these in person because a front on shot does not show the complex color depth and texture. Robert Marc also invented a hinge that is essentially his visual "signature" and I can attest that it really is an improvement over standard hinges. It looks better and it holds up.

But try the round ones on. They are very distinctive rather than nerdy looking. But you'll know when you see them on.

It's really hard to find some decent pictures of his frames, even at his own site which is all about the "brand" ... but you should be able to find them at a good store.

78. Ya know, I reallyreallyreally like THESE Robert Marc frames:
http://www.robertmarc.com/collection/collection.asp?cid=1&pid=8

They're kinda 50s cat-eyes-ish and funky, but not way too harsh at all. I'll ask my optician if he carries this brand. THANK YOU for the link!

You will love the color texture of his frames, and the overall quality. There is also another pair that is similar, a little heavier, but I think funkier. I wear Robert Marc's myself, regular glasses & sunglasses. :D

70. I like them both.
The new ones are more fashionable and more individualized. The present frames are more generic, but still better than ones currently considered fashionable.

72. You and I are of like mnd about the frames currently popular.
See the link in my reply to Tuesday Afternoon. I'd rather keep the frames I have than get any of those new, boxy frames. They just strike me as kinda harsh. x(

92. I've had really cool, sporty, sophistocated short hairstyles before.
TOTALLY cute, sexy and smart on you, my beauty, but a TOTAL waste of effort for me, my career and my lifestyle. Long hair is better for me, especially when I can resist the temptation to blow-dry it into submission. It took me 30 years to figure out that I have naturally curly hair, it's red and unusual (especially down here in Ticino) so maybe I ought to just go with what it is and who I am. Fighting it is a HUGE hassle. :spray:

This is how it is when I don't fight it:

The alternative to these round, Harry Potteresque frames would be something like a modern version of 40s/50s "cat eye" glasses -- which I also love. But I also know my penchant for retro stuff might not genuinely suit my face shape. x(
