Need some advice
Been battling some serious depression...any ideas on some steps I might take to combat it?

Thanks,

1. Sex, drugs, rock and roll
Unless of course you're depressed by the fact that those things might not be readily available to you

2. try getting out in the sun every day
if there is no sun try one of those solar lamps

sunshine is good for the soul, most depressed people I know spend their days in a darkened room

don't know if it will help, but it's a place to start and just getting dressed enough to go sit outside every day is a start

hold you feel better soon

3. Go to the doctor and get some meds
PS DU does not allow you to ask for medical advice.

All we can give is :pals:

4. I'd suggest you should talk to a professional.
I certainly wish you well, though.

7. Adding commentary to below since you mentioned this.
Honestly, a regular exercise routine that includes a cardio workout, weight training and stretching will do wonders for mood regulation. It really does affect body and brain chemistry in positive ways.

I am not proposing a "macrobiotic" diet or anything hinky, but eliminating as much processed food from your diet as possible is also a great way to supplement counseling and medication. The fresher and more colorful the diet the better.

9. Okay, excellent.
I find, for myself, exercise really helps my moods. Doesn't have to be in a gym. Take a bike ride.

13. To supplement the treatment you're already getting (which is good!)...
I highly, highly recommend the positive cognitive therapy techniques (along with careful attention to diet and exercise) found in books like Dr. David Burns' Feeling Good. Not only did it help me get out of severe depression, but the techniques it taught me have helped keep me OUT of major depression in the 20 years since then.

12. Some good advice already posted above.
If you're into an organized religion, then prayer, meditation and counseling can work.

If you're not into an organized religion, then meditation and counseling can work.

Exercise. Yoga is apparently good for body mind and spirit.

Finding stuff to laugh at.

And yes sometimes medicine does help too.

Get well soon, and take care of yourself.

Mark.
