Job update, need vibes.
Edited on Thu Mar-12-09 06:49 PM by supernova
As most of you know, I've been laid off since October. True bummer. I've felt awful and not bad by turns but never good about it.

Well, I applied for a job at a start up last week and they called me back! Very, very interested. Almost blowing me kisses interested. Turns out the owner is a huge fan of pubs I edited in a previous gig. 250 applicants and I'm one of three people interviewing. :bounce: I almost need to be pinched!

They want to interview me tomorrow morning. :-)

I'm a little concerned that it's a start up. but It would be a very nice job if it works out. They owners are either batshit crazy or have really hugh brass ones to be starting up an IT company in this economy.

They were very creative with the questions and seem to prefer the off the beaten path answers that I gave.

Anyway, I would really appreciate some of those wonderful lounge vibes to end my time in exile and be able to get on with my life! Please?

1. Don't be shy about asking them if they are operating on a 100% cash basis.
Steer clear if they are having to borrow to make payroll. If they are having to borrow, they should have a business plan to get themselves to a cash basis asap. Good luck with the interview!

7. That's a good idea
I wouldn't have thought of that. I've never dealt with startups before.

17. It sounds like these are the "good" IT people from your description.
The quirky, goofy, fun people who have a cool idea and want to see it come to fruition.

IT in any economy isn't a bad idea, BTW, if their product is creative, useful, and marketed in a way that gets people's attention. I worked for two now really big software companies when they were pretty small, went through all the growing pains (200-2000 in one case, one from much smaller to much bigger) and the people who hung on to the goofiness were the ones who were the most successful.

Let us know how it goes. I'll have you on my mind tomorrow.

3. it's not crazy to be starting an IT company in this economy..
the administration is all but begging people to start stuff -- and if they have a good idea/financing, go with it.

Good vibes going your way!

9. Well, that's true.
It's just something I hadn't contemplated before. Something new always seems more iffy than it really is I suppose.

4. Awesome. Good Vibes for you! Why be concerned about a start up? What's the worst that can happen,
you're unemployed again? You got that now, so why not give it a shot and have fun with it? I'm excited for you.

That means a lot.

LOL. "SA" means something else on a fan board I belong to for a certain actor. :D

18. Happy thoughts being sent your way...
going with a startup can be a GOOD thing sometimes. Risky, but nowadays what isn't??

We are still sitting on pins and needles w/all the interviews my husband has had and will have this week. The waiting is driving us crazy!
