1. Pittsnogle!
He doesn't play for West Virginia anymore but I loved that name.

2. boo! I had to turn it off!

Well, I knew they would be gunning for us. We didn't seem to have a lot of pep. Too much hype, perhaps.

4. Does that give UConn a Number 1 seed instead of Pitt??

5. I think both will get #1 seed
but as a UConn fan I'm glad Pitt is out of the Big East tournament. The officiating really sucked in that WV-Pitt game. But WV got the worst of it and won anyway.

21. what was the officiating like? too many fouls called?
Like the weenie that I am, I fled the scene... :hide:

They said the 1-3-1 defense did em in - what does that entail? I know about the standard defenses...

27. certain egregious fouls not called, a couple others wrongly charged
Pitt twice drives a man down, shoulder down and wham, and that's "incidental contact". Then there was cases where Pitt was clearly in the wrong and WV got charged with the foul. Saw it all in real time and in replay and you see the ref standing RIGHT THERE a few feet away and ...whaaa? Though to be fair I saw at least one case where I could not understand why Pitt was charged except maybe as makeup for a prior error.

1-3-1 zone defense http://www.guidetocoachingbasketball.com/1-3-1znprssr.htm

WV not a big team so they could not rely on a couple of big guys to block.

7. I used to live and breathe college hoops but have barely followed it since I live in the Southwest.
Has Georgetown disappointed this year? Are they even going to make the NCAA tourney?

9. Actually OK and TX are often in the top 10, but it's different because no one really cares here.
If it's not football, that is.

Maryland and Georgetown have always been my teams. I used to hate Duke and UNC about equally but that's changed since I learned that Dean Smith was such a good Democrat. Seriously.

I've always liked UConn since they became a power. I rooted for them both times in the Championship game when they won (if I recall at least one of those times was beating Duke, so that was an extra treat).

11. Interestingly, I have hated NC because of the way Dean Smith
ran the offense at NC. I fucking hated the four corners "kill the clock" offense. It really fucking pissed me off! Any time Duke can kick the shit out of NC I'm happy.

I lived in CT for over 20 years and what Jim Calhoun did to that program is amazing. There were a group of big east coaches that were sort of a unique group at the time.

30. I can remember not knowing they played
If they did, they did not win. It was a conscious decision to go BigTime with basketball and it has worked out rather well. I'm still not tired of it! We used to think everything about UConn was a joke.

13. yes Georgetown has disappointed this year
Edited on Thu Mar-12-09 09:54 PM by DeepBlueC
They were knocked out by St. John's on the first day of the Big East Tournament. They won't be in the NCAA tournament this year. It's a rebuilding year for them.

15. Fair 'nuff.
I think Huggins is a playoff/tournament kinda coach. They do OK during the regular season, but it's all a buildup for the Big Dance.

Thank God I'm going to grad school at WVU -- I did my undergrad at the University of Oregon. x(

I think Louisville will be one #1 seed from the big East. They did win the regular season.
