Do your kitties play fight?
My kitties get into staring contests which end in one of them throwing the other to the ground. It's funny watching them sit still with their tails twitching furiously back and forth and theM WHAM! one of them hits the floor with the other one on top. Their pretty brutal to each other. Of course it's the younger kitty which almost always loses out. Oh man, they also do this thing where they play charge each other, haunching their backs and running sideways. That is the funniest.

1. Yeah my girls do that alot
Rolling around biting and scratching each other. Usually ends when someone bites too hard and then off they go into chase mode! Oh and recently the wrestling matches take place on ME in the middle of the night...

our male cat will do that to me. thankfully he hasn't sinked his teeth into my hand yet.

7. Yeah, they do this thing where they bite and then lick my hand alternatively.
When they get all rowled up, I'll sometimes hoover my foot over them and they attack me. Grab my foot with their claws and do the little kicks with their back feet.

10. Cat Rasslin'!
Oh, yeah. Pippy usually initiates it (Brianna's kind of prissy), and usually she does so at around 1:30 AM. Brianna is about 3x the size of Pip, but Pip is all cattitude. Brianna manages to defend herself by extending her absurdly long legs to the point where Pip can't land a good punch.

Esther doesn't have a cat to beat up, so she chooses my hands. I don't a day has gone by since I've had her that my hands haven't had some scratches on them. x(

20. We even have a name for it: fighter biter.
This is something we probably should not have accomodated when Ginger was a kitten, but the precedent has been established and, really, beyond a few scratches (mostly from me pulling away from his claws) there's been no _real_ bloodletting. He enjoys it so much, every two or three weeks, that it's difficult for CMW and me to deny Ginger this profound pleasure. :7

21. haha, that's a great name for it
Esther will roll over on her belly and will wait for me to start petting, then she grabs hold of my hand with both front paws and starting kicking at my palm. I've found a great way to get her to stop is to start scratching under her chin, she can't resist her one weakness. ;)

22. Here's a little hint for when Esther plays fighter-biter.
Edited on Fri Mar-13-09 01:06 PM by Heidi
If you pull your hand away, you're gonna bleed. If you can manage to just relax your hand when she grabs it with her claws, you'll be okay. Many of us cat lovers don't realize that 90 percent of our injuries, scars and serious scratches come from pulling back -- thus drawing the scratch down the length of our hands, arms, etc. Scratches usually aren't too serious in a "fighter biter" situation and you can always wash with antiseptic soap and medicate a few minutes later.

Bites are another thing. They can go very deep, so I take cat bites very seriously and if there's the slightest sign of swelling or infection, I visit a doctor right away. Fortunately, I've had to do this only once in my life, and it was a bite from a feral cat long ago.

23. she's never drawn blood from biting
Very rarely are her bites more than play bites and even her "I'm pissed" bites never break the skin. When she's play fighting I just take it until that urge passes or I start scratching under her chin and that breaks it up. But you're right in that the nasty scratches are usually the result of her swiping at me and me quickly pulling back.

24. You're a smart, smart man.
The only thing that breaks Ginger's fighter-biter fugue is if I boil Alaska sea perch or chicken breast. Unfortunately, I have only TWO arms, and neither is long enough to multi-task in the kitchen while indulging his blood lust.

Esther is a lucky, lucky, lucky kitty to have a sweet Papi like you.

Behold: the king.

15. We call that "Kitty WWF"
We don't allow them to be aggressive towards us, so they take it all out on eachother. Two young male cats have a lot of energy and feistiness. They slam one another into the floor so hard it makes me wince sometimes. But somehow they always still end up friends at the end. In fact, most WWF sessions around here either start or end with sweet grooming and purring.

25. I love it when cats run sideways. My two used to play more often but
it was usually the kitten starting the whole thing. She is now almost 4 years old so she doesn't initiate battle much anymore. The old guy is too lazy to start a playfight. Though they will chase each other down the hall.

the little one with no front claws usually starts it, but the fat cat usually ends it

my girl at my dad's house is such a turd like that, though. we bred her once and kept two of the kittens and she'll start out all sweet by grooming them before starting shit. it's a hoot to watch them.
