Poll question: What's the best MOVIE of the last 20 years
Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 08:13 PM by charlie and algernon
We did TV shows, now it's movies. I kinda expect Shawshank Redemption to run away with this, but ya never know, so vote!

4. You know what an impossible question this is.
Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 07:34 PM by Mike 03
Of the names on your list, I would vote for either "Fight Club" or "Silence of the Lambs." Other choices on the list are not ones I would think of in a million years ("No country for old men"? Please.)

How about:

"Casino"
"Se7en"
If you have to pick a Tarantino film, please consider, "Kill Bill"
"The Departed"
"Thin Red Line"
"Kundun"
"Eyes Wide Shut"

On edit: "JFK"

And about two dozen others I can't even think of right now.

10. Since 1989
Just going on immediate memory here, I'd say the movie that thoroughly engrossed me the most might have been "Dances with Wolves".

I liked all the ones on your list. "Fight Club" the least and "Pulp Fiction", "Silence of the Lambs", and NCFOM tied at the top.

12. Okay, my pick is "Se7en", by Fincher
Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 08:12 PM by Mike 03
But that's only because "Full Metal Jacket" would be two years too old to qualify.

But this is a fun question that really made me think.

Thank you. A real challenge.

years ago.

30. Naw, sorry, I'm not talking about people.
Nobody here is "ancient."

I am just a little bit surprised how few people understand the parameters of the OP's question.

Twenty years means any film produced between 1989 and 2009, right?

That eliminates a lot of great films.

Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 08:29 PM by OmahaBlueDog
It's not even close. SL would get my vote for the best American film ever made (although it was shot outside America).

Yes, that means I think it's a better film than the Godfather (either part), Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Fantasia, Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz,or GWTW.

Okay, maybe it's not the *best* movie of the past 20 years, but it probably is my personal favorite. Though "Goodfellas" and "Jacob's Ladder" aren't far behind.

33. worth the price of admission just for the tip rant
Mr. Pink: I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's fucked up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government fucks in the ass on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college bullshit I got two words for that: learn to fuckin' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big fuckin' surprise.
