Going to see Watchmen today....question

We're planning on bringing our 15yr old son and 12yr old daughter.
I know it's rated R, but they are both pretty mature and I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me what the R is really for?
I mean they can get an R rating for having the word "fuck" in a damn movie.
I don't think it will be a big deal, just curious.

There is a rape scene,violence,I think maybe a boob shot or two..I can't remember.
It is the Crash (movie) of superhero movies.
These are really screwed up heroes in a dicked up world.
All that said..I loved it. Great movie

Woman getting raped(just about)

Lots of broken bones, fractured bones punching through skin/arms/legs, lots of blood.

Fat man getting his forearms cut off with a grinder, very graphic, they show it all....

Dr. Manhattan blowing up people...people explode like a popped zit, they show it all.

pregnant women getting gunned down

sex, tits, ass, penis...if you have talked to your kids about the birds/bee's, than this is probably fine


Thats about all the ones that pop into mind....if it were me, I'd perhaps take the 15yr old, not the 12 yr old....

3. There's nudity & a few sex scenes between Dan & Laurie.

Several explicit scenes of violence & blood (esp Rorschach with a meat cleaver). And the depiction of mass murder, of course.

After clicking on the link I do remember seeing it now.
Our daughter said she didn't want to go. She wants to see a horror movie.
Whatever....
The 15yr old on the other hand, I think he will be fine.

8. We took my SO's 14-year-old (spoilers)

and had a very in-depth discussion about the movie afterwards. We'd both read the graphic novel in high school, so we had a pretty good idea about what was coming, although we had no idea how it was going to be portrayed.

This is not your typical superhero movie, in that everyone's an antihero. There's a lot of very graphic violence (including someone getting their hands cut off with a grinder), an attempted rape, a sex scene that leaves very little to the imagination, and, of course, Dr. Manhattan's giant blue penis.

I don't know your kids, so I'd say the decision is up to you. Personally, I wouldn't take a 12-year-old to it, and at 15 I'd say it depends on the 15-year-old's maturity and what he's been exposed to up to this point moviewise.

Be prepared to talk to your kids after.

10. I wouldn't bring a 12 year old, and only the 15 year old if he's pretty mature for his age.

But that's just me.

I read the graphic novel recently, and it's got some serious shit in there. Rape, murder, ect.
