We waited in the lobby area for about an hour before the show; everything was wet and noisy outside, so we weren't terribly tempted to wander, lol. Anyway, we got to talk to the man who was running the gift shop/information desk for a while, and he told us a lot about the theatre. I bought this small-but-gorgeous hand clutch made from fabric scraps that were left over after producing the costumes for "Tamburlaine."
The show itself was awesome; it was such a fascinating take on Ion, a mixture of classic and modern, and the production really played-up the fact that Ion is not a typical Greek "tragedy." We were sitting toward the left side of the theatre--not all the way down in the front bottom, but in the middle-height section that you can access from the 2nd floor. We definitely had a great view of everything! I wish we could have taken pictures of the set before the show started, but cameras and recording equipment were forbidden, of course.
After the show, we walked out into an ENORMOUS crowd of people coming out of the hockey game who were drunk and rowdy. We ducked into that sports bar across the street, "The Greene Turtle," but it was so packed that we wound up giving up and leaving after a few minutes and high-tailing it back to the Metro Central station in order to get some breathing room.
As for the poetry contest--I hope I win too, but even if I don't, I consider it an honor to be chosen as a finalist.
