1. I remember a case in Maine from about 15-20 years ago

Some idiot shot a woman who was in her back yard hanging laundry. He thought she was a moose. :eyes:

2. Deer. She was wearing white gloves and apparently the "hunter" thought it was the deer's tail.

I remember that the deer hunters were the most vocal about calling the guy an idiot.

And yes, the hunters were totally disgusted - first rule of hunting is don't shoot at something if you can't make a killing shot. You can't make a killing shot if you can't tell what the heck you're shooting at.

14. My grandfather was always adamant

that if you were unsure of being able to put your projectile through the heart and shoulder of your quarry that you shouldn't take the shot. Any other shot was unfair to the animal and would ruin the meat due to adrenaline contamination thus rendering the meat only usable for dog food.

where a very elderly man shot at a girl riding her horse (and hit the horse) because he thought it was a deer. He was sitting on his front porch!
