Okay, so about this so-called "Guitar Hero" thing...
So I'm at Wal-Mart of all places earlier this afternoon and in the electronics department they have about two dozen Guitar Hero III games on clearance for $30.00 each, (they were usually $70.00). They come with the guitar apparently, so I decided to pick one up to see if the partner would like it--he's in to all the dance games, singing games, etc., while I hate those types of things. I especially don't like these guitar games when I see kids playing the display units in the stores, probably because I'm more of an electronica type person...

Anyway, I get home and pop it in and he hates it. Screws the whole thing up, can't make it though one single song without quitting, and gets seriously upset that I blew thirty bucks on it. He hands it to me and says, "Here, you play it".

So I did.

For the last 4 hours...

I'm freaking in love with that game and totally jammed out! I finally had to turn it off because my fingers were hurting so badly. So he's in the next room playing World of Dorkcraft and I walk in when I'm done and am all like, "I want a divorce. Me and the game have decided to run away together. Three's a crowd, right?".

I guess I finally see why everywhere I go I can't escape kids playing those displays. What is up with that game and it's being so freaking addicting?

3. It took me three tries to beat Tom Morello...
...on easy. I guess I've got a ways to go yet.

I suspect I'll be getting in a lot of practice though.

6. Guitar Hero III in my view is the hardest
guitar style game out there....

I've been playing it for over a year now, and I know for certain, that I will eventually beat Lou on hard...

And I also know that I will never beat Lou, Rain of Blood, or One on Expert....or Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce(anyone who can beat this one on expert is god)....

I have beaten GH I and II, and GH World Tour on expert...but GHIII still kicks me in the teeth....

7. This thing has a head-to-head competition mode...
Wal-Mart had a single wireless guitar on clearance for $20.00. I think I may head back tomorrow and pick one up. I bet my friend Joey would get a kick out of it.

If I keep having as much fun with it as I had this afternoon I'll probably be playing it in a year as well. And will likely pick up any other versions of it I can find. Would love to see one with the B-52's!

29. The game is addicting
I like wireless, I got the wireless for the Guitar Hero World Tour game, and it works rather well...

Guitar Hero Metallica comes out at the end of this month, and being a big Metallica head, I can't wait to get my hands on the game...although I know the game will be very, very hard...most of their songs in the Guitar Hero universe are pretty rough....

And having the Michael Schenker project on the new game as well...damn, the guitar is going to be rough....

I went through my first two stages of expertise reletively fast, cut through easy the first 14hrs I had it, went to medium in about a week...was on medium for about a month, before I started hard...I practiced on hard mode for about 5 months or so, even going back and playing GHI and GH II...those games are a bit easier/slower, and I just got use to it...now I'm on expert, but there are a select few songs that I will never be able to beat, Jordan on GHII, Rain of Blood, One, Through the Fire and Flames, and the Lou Battle....

I don't know how people do it on expert on those particular songs, because I do put in some hours...but at least...I know my limitations, :D

30. Yeah, definitely addicting...
I managed to limit myself to an hour this afternoon. Mostly because I already gave myself carpal tunnel during yesterday's blitz.

We had a face off last night before bed. I won 9 out of 10.

Tonight I went out to find a custom face for my wireless guitar at the game store--they were out, but sure enough there were kids playing the display unit. I wanted to jump in but was afraid of embarassing myself. I'll be ready soon, though.

Awesome game.

4. I had a short dream about making a Sax Hero game last night
and that just got me thinking. All wind instruments should be digital, so I can't hear kids practicing :D

where someone on the team is in charge of the cowbell.

15. It's bizarre, really.
The game has guitar, bass, drums, and a mike for singing - if you should so choose to sing.

But to do things like make the cowbell sound, you shake the mike to the beat. The game has a sensor that tells you if you're hitting it on time or not.

Very cool.

I'm about ready to kill him.

Oddly enough, he's not friends with "Fat Whistle Boy" down the street.

8. It's so much fun!
As a matter of fact, it was Guitar Hero that inspired my son to decide to take up the REAL guitar. He's been taking lessons for 9 months now. :)

We have all the Guitar Hero games, and the Rock Band games as well. It's like having a rock concert, right in our home! :woohoo:

11. I don't know, but it's been hell on both my carpal tunnel
and my dissertation.

My biggest difficulty with it has been my uncontrollable urge to play the actual notes rather than the colors. Like, if it goes up a third, my fingers want to play a third, not the next color.

I'm still on Medium, but it's because I've had to go on a self-imposed hiatus (with occasional backsliding) in order to finish grad school.

17. We have two guitars at my house.
It's great -- two people can play together and pick whatever level is right for them. When my stepson is here it means that we can fart around on Guitar Hero for hours -- two players, one supporter. Good stuff.

25. Eh. The partner has totally gotten into the idea since the new guitar came home...
It came with a buch of stickers like mine did. It's been here all of 15 minutes and he's managed to blanket it with every single sticker but the Guns'N'Roses one. He's looking for a place where it will fit now. He's refusing to show me the guitar.

Hated the game, loved the stickers. Welcome to my world.

23. It's kind of a running joke around our house, since someone's totally addicted to it...
Just last week there were some explosion sounds coming from the den and when I asked what that noise was, he said fireworks in some village or something. So I asked what they were celebrating--the liberation of Doritoland or did someone rescue the princess statue from Mike's mom's basement...

24. The hardest part as a "real" guitar player
is not playing the intervals you hear. You have to play what you see on the screen rather than the notes.

I'm a serious string player (the only stringed instrument I haven't figured out is the banjo) and I'm all about Guitar Hero. Not the same as the real deal, but awfully fun.

26. Jeez, he's totally destroyed that guitar...
He just showed it to me. It's more sticker than guitar at this point.

Growing up in the late 1980's in Yokelville, AR, I thought I'd escaped from Guns'N'Roses and all that, but sure enough he turns it over and there's the sticker for them.

He has the Activision and Neversoft logo stickers on it as well. I said, "You've even got those on there?", and he said, "Those are my sponsers".

31. I could not believe it.
All this time, every time I saw it a store I thought, how lame--give me a game with some house music or something and we'll maybe, MAYBE, talk.

Sure enough I plugged it in and can't put it down. And when I do put it down I can't stop wanting to go pick it back up...
