Help!!
The 4 pods are too small. ABF doesn't give me an option go get another pod - they go straight to a 28' trailer. I think 4 pods fit on a flatbed.

Anyway, I've got to be out of here tomorrow. Has anyone had a trailer hitch put on their car and if so, how much $$ are we talking about? A U-haul trailer is my only option now.

Dammit. x(

5. Damn.
I can't really think of anything. I'll keep this kicked, though.

Is it possible U-Haul could provide a trailer hitch?

7. I'll have to buy a hitch
and have it installed, then rent a trailer, drive it back here and load up what ABF didn't take. x(

8. OR Rent a small U-Haul truck with a car hitch on the back
Load up the truck, hitch your car to the truck.

Keep us posted! Good Luck!

14. Thanks!
I checked the price and it's about the same for both when you consider fuel. I'm not comfortable (at all) driving a truck through Chicago. A car with a trailer will be easier to manage.

6. Bummer lizziegrace. Hitch will cost between $100 -$150 plus installation.

Depends on the car. If you have a U-Haul center nearby check with them first. Go here to check for your car. http://store.uhaul.com/Hitches Good luck!

Edit to supply link, oops!

10. Aw, lizziegrace,
I'm sorry it's not going well for you. If I could, I'd pack you up and drive you myself.

I know nothing about trailer hitches, but I'll kick your thread so you can get lots of help. :grouphug:

15. Thanks...
This hasn't been an easy move at all. I wish it was tomorrow.

I have an appointment to have the hitch installed at 3:30 and will get the trailer then. Load it and coral the cats and leave tonight. Not sure when I'll get to Columbus, but I've got to make this in one long run for the cats.

11. How heavy are the boxes?
Reason I ask is that I read somewhere about someone who moved cross country by literally shipping everything UPS. WOuld it be an option to get the lightest boxes (linens, etc) and do that?

UPS is a reasonably decently priced shipper.

13. The pods will be picked up any minute
what's left are heavy boxes - kitchen stuff. I'm going to call U-Haul and find out about a trailer and hitch. Then I have to call my parents. I have $125 to my name...

12. So sorry to hear this.
Midlodemocrat mentioned shipping UPS, which is a good idea. When my daughter moved to college and then back home again, she shipped everything via US mail, book rate. It took a while, but was very cheap.

Just a suggestion.

Wishing you good luck.
