Who else thought "Big Love" rocked last night ***SPOILERS***
Edited on Mon Mar-16-09 09:06 AM by LynneSin
I think Jeanne Tripplehorn deserves some sort of acting accolades for what she pulled off yesterday (her and Chole Sevigy). I have never seen a woman so torn from so many directions. You know that she really loves Bill and she wants her marriage to stay intact and yet she's so upset that she was being kicked out of the Mormom church.

I thought the Endowment was pretty neat to see and Ellyn Burstyn does a great job as Jeanne's mother (and seriously - I wanted to punch the sister in the face!).

I can't even begin to imagine how this is going to end next week. And I'm glad Nikki got the heave-ho although I doubt she's going anywhere anytime soon.

EDIT NOTE: Think about this. Nikki went to the funeral and was forced to stay on the compound which means she probably has not had her birth control pills with her. Her and Bill had break-up sex - you can only guess where this is going to lead to!

3. When Barb called Nikki a sociopath I cheered for joy
Nikki is in dire need of professional counselling. She is not equiped to live anywhere else in the world but on that compound. The fact that Nikki was never able to adjust into regular society. She had no idea of the concept of money. Anytime she found a new vice (shopping, gambling) she would go off the deep end. Bill's marriage would have been more succesful if he found 3 wives who weren't from the compound. Perhaps Anna can replace Nikki.

6. It is ok for Bill to cheat
it isn't ok for Nikki to consider cheating

Bill is an asshole.

Nikki has serious issues, that is obvious. Her parents are messed up, she was forced into marriage at 14, had a child, then was "unsealed", and now is in another screwed up relationship where she is expected to pop out babies for Bill without choice and never question the man. Yup.. she's messed up.

Barb is also messed up and needs counselling as well.

oh, and i can't believe i'm into a show enough to talk about characters as if they were real

7. We honestly they all have issues - it's a messed up lifestyle
I understand that plural marriage is a personal choice (although technically still illegal) it's just creating havoc. Honestly, Nikki should have never left the compound. Sure the FLDS want to practice how they feel is best but those kids are barely able to hold their own in a normal society. It's one thing to home school your kids but these kids are receiving such a warped education that mainstream society isn't going to work. (note this is not a bust on homeschooling - my mentality is if you homeschool make sure these kids are getting a quality education that'll make them competitive in RL for whatever they want to do with their life)

8. Erm, yah, you're confusing fiction with reality
what you see on Big Love is not FLDS. And as for their schooling (real life), trust me when I say that the children who were tested for educational levels tested at or above their grade level.

11. Look, I know you're the FLDS #1 cheerleader
however, there has been much written and documented out there that says otherwise - from reputable news sources like the New York Times.

However, this is about Big Love, thank you!

I was on topic; you brought up the FLDS first, not me. I was merely pointing out that what you see on Big Love is not an accurate portrayal of that particular sect. It's a soap opera.

13. As I've said - I recognize that but you are not the only source of information for the FLDS
my comments were not based on a TV series. Is that a clear enough statement. My documents are based on articles I've read in the NY times and other reliable sources that have been out there well before the FLDS raid from last year.

15. Let's backtrack & I"ll show you where you equated the two
"I understand that plural marriage is a personal choice (although technically still illegal) it's just creating havoc. Honestly, Nikki should have never left the compound. Sure the FLDS want to practice how they feel is best but those kids are barely able to hold their own in a normal society."

What I was correcting you on was your statement that the "compound" portrayed in Big Love is FLDS. It is most decidedly not. It is no more accurate a portrayal of "the compound" than As the World Turns or any other soap is of "normal" society.

16. Geez, it's a damn thread about a TV show
please, leave your FLDS preaching out of it. If you want to cheer on the FLDS please start your own thread and let us enjoy our "Big Love" discussions

Oh I haven't even bothered to read your reply since you are all intent on trying to convince the rest of us that the FLDS in RL are something other than the religious nut-jobs that they are practicing something that personally I find disgusting and treating many of their children horrible. Sure - you got to see some of the good ones but there has been a strong history of abuse out there. They are sick people and you'll find most of us here treat it like that. THAT was opinion formed ages ago before a damn TV show, which btw is nothing more than entertainment

4. It was fantastic. Nikki never thinks about anyone else but herself.
Barb now has, thanks to Bill-the-megalomaniac-asshole husband, cut herself off of all support but for those in her own house.

Can't believe Sarah and her boyfriend were doing it in Nikki's bedroom. Well, yes I can. Loved it when Ben smacked him one, though.

It really ticked me off that Bill had sex with Nikki, then the next morning was like "I'm moving your stuff to an apartment next weekend." What a jerk. Of course she'll be pregnant, further complicating her presence in the family.

I'm so suckered in by this show.

9. I love Big Love last season and this season
The plot is thick with sex, violence, treason, murder, lies, deceit, rage, manipulation, and severely dysfunctional relationships. Everyone's life is in total crisis.

I love it!

HBO comes up with the most outstanding series I've ever watched. I hope we get some other show either start or come back without having to wait too long. I wish they'd bring Carnavale back.

19. I agree about the amazing performances
Both women made me feel as torn and lost as their characters.

I also loved the device of seeing Bill imagine a different scenario than the one that actually played out.
