If you say it's a nice day, they'd say, looks like it's beginning to cloud up.

I think either (1) the two of you aren't on the same frequency, or (2) they just want to be a PITA and are going to disagree with anything you say.

Your thoughts?

5. One of my BIL's is like this. I think it's a passive-aggressive way

of being a jerk.

7. Yes - it's passive aggressive
I have a friend like this, and there are times when I just need a little space from her because of this.

In her case, there's an element of "I've always got to be right", too.

12. Are we friends with the same person?
I know exactly such a person. And like you I need a little space from her every now and then.

6. My roommate is like that in a way....
He likes pointing out that other people are wrong, or in the lack of a right/wrong situation, that they are doing something that he would do differently. But if the tables are turned- he gets offended.

Case in point- TV choices. He's 43, but his television choices are more in line of that of a 12-year-old girl. He is WAY into Idol, of course, and LOVES all of the kid-oriented movies that ABC Family Channel puts on. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with said movies- but just not what you'd think a 43 year old gay man would watch. Last night's movie was particularly insipid and saccharine, so I started to make fun of it and he got kind of offended.

9. Yes. An old band mate of mine was an asshole like that.
I was against the KKK and he was a contrary asshole. He disagreed with me so much that he joined a local militia and started reading racist literature just to spite me. The only reason he didn't join the KKK itself was because he was part Sequoia. What a dumb asshole he, AND HIS WIFE, both were.

We are no longer friends and never will be again. That was unforgivable, in my book.

I have come to the conclusion that anytime somebody disagrees with you ALL the time like that, they are not your friend.

response to things you say.

You know the one with ten thousand reasons they can't do whatever it is the rest of you think is neat, easy, time saving, interesting etc.

20. Once, a really chronic case..I was driving truck
and us company drivers all gathered for dinner at the truck stop. I would say something and this asshole would SCREAM NO IT DOESN'T!! I would say something else, and again he went off and said NO IT ISN'T! I have never seen this jerk before in my life and never saw him since. I also think he was strung out on meth...
