Now that cigarettes have gone up again
I am hearing a lot of people talking about quitting. I wonder if my ex will finally take the plunge? He has tried so many times. Anyone else hearing chatter about quitting finally?

1. I quit cold turkey 24 years ago - and I was a heavy smoker.
Have you ever thought about what a freight train rolling over your body for two weeks would feel like? That's about it. But then, you can smell again. Weird sensation.

2. My goal is this:
Get the torn whateveritis (they're still debating) in my ankle that I've been limping around on for 9 months fixed. Go through as much PT as I have to to be ambulatory afterwards.

Once I am ambulatory, chuck the cigs and hit the gym hard. Two birds (9 months of sedentary living has not been kind to my health anyway), one stone.

8. I'm going to have to find a group.
The patch gives me migraines, gum and lozenges make me sick to my stomach, and Chantix makes my blood pressure go up to the point where I'm more likely to have a stroke than if I kept smoking. I need people to keep me honest.

This is a college town. I'm sure I can find a group.

7. You are very lucky!
You only have 24 hours to go before things start getting easier every day.

15. Long term is really harder for me than the first three days.
I've made it as long as five or six months before, then something happens to really stress me out, or I'm in a smoky bar, or whatever, and I'm back on it.

And I am acting accordingly.

19. I remember bitching that smokes had gone up from $2/pack to $2.25. You know what that means?
It means I've smoked too damned long.
