You let your kid watch all of the Saw movies but not Milk?
does that make any sense at all?

We watched Milk last night and enjoyed it, my friend told her friend she liked it and friend said "My dad won't let me see it" but it's a okay for her to watch the Saw franchise. Apparently her Dad think it has objectionable content and thinks my husband and i "were crazy letting her watch that!".

1. Well, everybody knows watching Milk will give you teh ghey
But watching senseless, violent movies won't. They'll just make you senseless and violent.

It's easy, isn't it?

that her dad rented for her. I can't wait to see him when he drops his daughter off at kick boxing on Sunday.

16. So, full frontal nudity is okay, and sex is okay
but a movie about an historical person who was gay rights pioneer is not suitable?

:wtf:

I'd really love to hear if there is any way he can justify that without sounding like a homophobic asshole.

15. Yeah same here.
I refer to the Saw movies and crap like The Hills Have Eyes as "violence porn". There's a fine line between scary movies and shit like that.

36. i haven't seen them but i've read some reviews and some of my friends have told me about them
that's just not my kind of movie, i made the mistake of watching Wolf Creek, wish i could take that one back.

I love ghost stories and monster movies, there's enough human monsters already in society without me seeing them on the big screen as well.

21. Nooo. I let my kids *act out* all the Saw movies, but not milk.
I don't want my kids growing up to be political agitators.

I do, however, want them to grow up to be clever in devising situations of terror and hopelessness.

22. That's just silly....
As an aside, one of my friends is a MAJOR horror-slasher movie buff and he routinely lets his kids watch gore-flicks with him. When I first heard about it, I thought it was a bad idea but his kids seem perfectly fine about it. They knew from the get-go that it was just "play-acting" and it never seemed to bother them. One of them even got interested in the technology of special effects and is hoping to pursue that as a career.

24. I've run into similar situations.
I recommended "No Country for Old Men" to someone who wanted to see it with their young-ish child. I said it was very violent and wouldn't recommend that the kid see it, then she asked if there were any sex scenes.

I said no, but reiterated the point about the violence, but it didn't seem to bother her.

29. Nice mentality. So, yes to the Guinea Pig series, but no to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert?
Check.

:eyes:

Really nothing new though. We've all seen over and over in this country how we accept violence over anything but the most banal takes on sexuality. Our whole American mythology is based on violence for the most part. War, guns, fighting...all glamorized. Sex and sexuality? Oh noes!!! The horror...the horror.

38. I know someone who let their 4 year old watch Saw.
I know other people who allow their second grader (when he was in first) to watch Family Guy. We got our son, who's in second grade, th Dark Knight for Christmas. I think he was disappointed (we loved it) because when it came out we told him he wasn't allowed to see it, and then it was all hype. FYI---my son is not a psycho that loves violence---he would not talk to the Family Guy kid for a week for purposely killing a spider in our garage. The kid who can watch Family Guy still isn't allowed to see Dark Knight, but was allowed to watch I Am Legend (which I thought totally sucked, but would scare my son).

Ultimately, it's the parents decision, and I've found they vastly differ.

FYI----we let our son watch the Simpsons, because it's one of our fave shows.
