2. You can learn!
I started out pretty simply. There was a long time that I did not cook anything that did not come out of a box (mac n cheese, etc).

I started to get a bit more adventurous as I got more comfortable in the kitchen.

You have to be unafraid to try new techniques though. I tried to make my own taco shells last week, they did not turn out perfectly but I know what I need to do to make them better.

9. Never too late!!
I didn't start really cooking 'til my early 40s. I'm not sure what came over me or what inspired me.... but now I just love it!

One of the best gifts I ever got was the book, "Cooking for Dummies." No lie! All the basics that Mom would have taught me if Mom had ever cared about cooking. The first time I actually cooked a whole chicken I was amazed at how good it was!!!

In the beginning, it's a bit tough because you don't have a single ingredient or herb or spice that you need for ANY recipe!!! It's really frustrating. But after you've been at it for a little while you'll be surprised what you can pull together.

3. That's like saying
learning how to make meth is a gateway drug for...

Oh, wait a minute.

You're right.

Seriously, though, I think you're right. When you get more interested in cooking, you get more interested in refining your technique and trying new things. I guess the upside is, you don't have to limit your obession to unhealthy foods.

5. True.
We are eating healthier as a result of my adventures in the kitchen. I have now made my own taco seasoning, for example, that has no salt in it, just chili powders, cumin, onion and garlic powders and dried minced onions.

7. At Home - Yes. As a Profession - No.
After 6-8 hours of throwing down on a line, the last thing I want to do is eat.

I want to drink.

Congrats on the scratch experimentation though. Scratch cooking is generally healthier and cheaper than packaged/processed foods. I've been frying my own tortilla chips for awhile now. Fuq Doritoes

Peace

16. With me, cooking leads to "taste testing" along the way.
That hasn't been good for my belly. The rest of me still looks lean and svelte. I just got this spare tire thing going on. Thing is, I hate cooking, but I have to because my aunt cannot. She'll burn herself. I have to do the cooking, begrudgingly or we'll both starve.
