45. Neat! I've only been there by going down the stairs.

My Mom lived in the apartment upstairs in 1925 and learned to swim by herself by jumping off a rock at La Jolla Cove. I take her over there every couple of weeks and take her around to see the sights.

That image is burned into my memory from my teens. We would jump off right at the opening from where you took this picture. The tiny rock beach is just on the other side of the tunnel.

The first time we landed on it was also the first time we forgot to secure our gear. Of course the tiny waves capsized us and tossed out snorkeling gear, waterproof camera, water bottles etc in to the surge. I had to swim around for a while before I found everything.

and would regularly go have lunch near there. The gallery I worked in was the location of Gregory Peck's father's pharmacy ...

Does your mom still live in the area? My sister is in Del Mar; last time I visited in 2007 we spent a lot of time in La Jolla. There is a cafe about two doors up from Banana Republic on Girard (I'm blanking on the name) that is run by a Belgian couple and the food is incredible! Not much seating, but soups, sandwiches, desserts, bread are worth stopping in for. I'm making myself hungry.

Very nice picture of your mom, by the way. I can just see her in her youth frolicking on the La Jolla beaches.
