5. I'm not sure... but from pictures I've been looking at, I think it was a deer tick.
Damn it!

16. The rash doesn't always present as an obvious bull's eye, and sometimes it doesn't
present at all.

My older son was bitten last summer but we'd had no clue so when we first saw his rash we thought it was poison ivy. After two weeks of cremes doing nothing and him experiencing aches and pains in that shoulder we went to get him tested and he turned up positive for Lyme's.

So just keep an eye on it. :)

8. I'd probably get antibiotic treatment in any case, just to be safe...
Is your dog on preventive anti-tick, flea, heartworm meds? It's a good idea.

6. I am suffering from ephasia
...and can't remember the name of the stuff. It comes in a green bottle and the brand name starts with a "P" and is mentholated.

Anyway, for the future, to safely remove a tick, get that stuff and drop a couple of drops over the tick. The tick will momentarily "let go" and you can dispose of the bugger, mouth pincers and all.

7. I would've been more careful if I realized it was a tick.
It was on my thigh, you see, and I thought it was some kind of scab or something. :banghead:

9. I remembered!
Campho-phenique!

I'm sorry. I realize this advice is after the fact. Just the same, in case it happens again. It's a good tip. My old roommate told me it was a nurse's trick. Worked on my daughter. Lil' bastard froze up and I got rid of it easy as pie.

Campho-phenique is pretty good at treating the itchiness from a bite too.

17. Oh, my mom used Campho-Phenique

for everything. She treated my brother's broken arm with it for two weeks until he finally decided he needed to go to the doctor. We never let her live that down!

But really he was the one acting like it was nothing. The next time he broke his arm, he came in the house and I said, "Hey, want to go to the library with me?" He said "Maybe later, I gotta get Mom to take me to get my arm set first." Tough kid.

18. Yep
I need to buy me another bottle of that. I love the old school stuff. Iodine, Hydrogen Peroxide, Witch Hazel and the like. Big fan of Vinegar and Borax too!

10. Watch out for any symptoms...
My boss's son got Lyme disease last summer. I don't know if it's the right season for that, but it doesn't hurt to be vigilant.

20. I don't think Lyme has a season as such. If the tick is carrying it then it stays
with the tick.
