Weird rant:
Got this from a guy I used to fly with.
Canadian by birth, naturalized 'Murican for many years now.
Became a died in the wool, way right-wing, flag waving, 'my country, right or wrong' uber patriot.
:eyes:

Used to send me right-wing blather emails.
I took him to task on a couple and got the 'dreaded' "I'll delete you from my mailing list" message.

Somehow, the guy had an epiphany prior to the presidential election and became very anti-Bush and anti-repug.
Better late than never.

Today I got this.
He thinks he's another Hemingway, or maybe Louis L'Amour (his favorite author).
Most would disagree.
Anyhow, for what it's worth...
(p.s. He sent this late last night, so I expect 'adult' beverages' may have been involved. ;-))

Lest We Forget
"Praps 'tis the Oyrish that's still in moy blud sure, that won't allow me ta "let go of it" easily, as some would have me to do. Some thinks 'tis moy Oyrish thick-headedness but I calls it moy solemn commitment unto moyself to see it through to the end.

Twas a glorious Tuesday mawrnin' oy recalls. Oy remembers it well fer the lilt of Oyrish laughter could be heard up and down the Eastern Seaboard as the wee folks came out en masse to celebrate nothing at all as they frolicked in merriment among the mushrooms and shamrocks and daiseys, shaking the dew drops loose from each blade of grass to fall softly upon their tongues so as to savor the sweetness of mead once again. Sure, 'twas a gift from the Angels in heaven above, like the miracle of the loaves and the fishes of yore. Well, whoy not, sez Oy?

It was one of those Norman Rockwell slices of Americana kinds of morning in its' simplicity and innocense. A young father taking his son to the barber shop for his very first haircut - a mother behind a sewing machine putting together the dress for her daughter's First Communion - an elderly couple caught holding hands as they feed the squirrels from a bench in Central Park. While in some faraway field the yelp of a puppy dog at play with a butterfly.

The warmth of Summer was giving way to the morning crispness of Fall and God had already begun that year's tapestry of reds and yellows and golds, leaving splashes of it among the maples and aspens high on the hills of Vermont.

But in the skies over Connecticut a new "Day of Infamy" had already begun as some twenty or so of our crewmember brothers and sisters were being butchered alive, their throats sliced open by box-cutter blades, their heads brutally ripped from their torsos to be rolled down the aisles like bowling balls.

While in a place we now know as Ground Zero, more than 3,000 defenceless men women and children were cremated alive as 300 brave firemen rushed into both Towers to rescue 7,000 of the 10,000 people estimated to be in the Towers at that time, before they themselves succumbed to the heat so intense that it caused their eyeballs to explode in their sockets like kernels of popcorn. Those 300 fathers and husbands and boyfriends never came home as expected that night. Their chairs still sit at the dinner table each night, unoccupied and waiting for closure.

Who was this mass-murderer? Some say it was Osama bin Lauden but he was never brought to trial to face those accusations. Instead he was allowed to go free by none other than the Commander-in-Chief himself at that time. What an outrage upon the American people!

No, instead we started a six-year war with Iraq where 4,260 and counting, more brave American men and women in uniform have been added to the ultimate toll of 9/11/01 and still growing.

Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11/01 / nothing to do with Al Quaeda / and most certainly, 170,000 troops sent to start a war in Iraq had nothing to do with keeping us safer at home. If yer incloined ta believe that loin of Oyrish blarney sure, oy'd loyk ta invite ya ta enjoy a wee goblet o' mead wit me and the Little People. Our borders are still unprotected and open to anyone who chooses to cross into or out of these United States.

So what was the Iraq Operation about? Oy'd like ta know!

There are those who have proclaimed publicly that they hope our new President fails after only 40 days in office. How self-destructive and anti-American is that? An America divided by this kind of political bigotry will most certainly have no hope of succeeding.

I have written about a coming Depression and the reasons behind it before, and the ultimate total collapse of America if bold steps aren't taken to stop it. I will support our new President in his recovery plan in every way that I can because if we allow ourselves to slip into a full-blown Depression, which is critically close to happening, I fear that we can kiss another "Once Great Nation" goodbye.

We should remember that we are all patriotic and loyal Americans first, both Democrats and Republicans alike, and not mistrusted enemies of each other, and together we must help our Country to survive through these critical times by pulling together. The Civil War ended a long time ago.

My hope is that President Obama can bring closure to this shameful chapter in our history so that the souls who perished on 9/11/01 and since then, can finally rest in the peace and the dignity that they deserve, and that somehow he can lead us out of this quagmire of muck and debris that has been thrust upon him to solve.

So drink up me lads and Happy Saint Patrick's Day to us all.

Lest We Forget!"
