Epic Van Halen trainwreck!
This is unreal. They stay out of sync the entire song. Soundman must have been asleep.

1. How is the band being out of synch the soundman's fault?
They just suck. Roth is horrible.

2. True, I should have said they were ALL asleep!

A trainwreck that bad should have just stopped. You would think that as long as those guys have been doing that they could pull it back in.

Roth sounded like he was trying to do his Lounge Lizard schtick.

3. It's not that shocking, really.
You take out the veteran bass player and replace it with a 16 year old boy, and you are just not going to get the same performance. Michael Anthony had a lot of himself and experience in that music. Wulfie's got nothing but a famous daddy. The whole thing sucks.

5. Wow, thats pretty terrible
It might not be the soundmans fault(but it probably is), it seems like the guitar is about a 3rd off, so chances are eddies fancy effects rig has some sort of octivizer that hes using and forgot to turn off. He seems pretty oblivious to the whole thing, so he's probably too fucked up to notice, or doesn't give a shit. But for as good a guitar player as he is, he could at least try to transpose his playing into the correct key.

6. The bass and guitar are in tune with each other so that leads me to believe...
...that the keyboard riff is painfully sharp.

The original keyboard tracks on "1984" sound like they were recorded with an Oberheim analog poly synth.

Analog oscillators were notorious for being unstable pitch-wise, especially when subjected to the temperature extremes produced by stage lighting.

It is hard to fathom, however that they were using 80's era technology on this tour when there are digital recreations of all the old synths that are quite convincing and much more reliable.

Ultimately, the fault lies with the band for being too fucking cheap to hire a living, breathing keyboard player.

7. I believe Eddie is pretty cheap as well as being a little
egotistical.

Mr. Anthony is better off.

8. Yep...You nailed it. Roth is singing with the synth....which of course,
..he would be, since it starts the tune.

9. Oh, but for a quarter step, it would have been in tune
Too bad about Eddie's guitar tuning.

10. Q: "Uh, dad. The synth is at A440, aren't we tuned down a half-step?"
A: "Too late, now. Just keep playing."

11. "Hey, A420 is within ten percent. Trust me, it'll be okay, like using a Langstrom gangley wrench
on a Findlay sprinkler head."

(Spoken like a Brooklyn plumber)
