I once ate Mexican food every meal for two straight weeks.

And yes, breakfast is included in that. :)

You must, REPEAT MUST, want to be an honorary Mexican.

Welcome, sister!

as a "nopalero"; a cactus eating, honest to gawd, Mexican,

I now pronounce you, an honorary Mexican,

with all the rights and privileges bestowed upon you by the fact,

that you want to be an Honorary Mexican and are therefore,

by the sheer force of will,

A Mexican, Honoris Causa.

Congratulations! :hi:

7. You're near the border, right?
So you can buy some cool stuff on the custom bonded warehouses.

Take them into Mexico, turn around, and bring them back...

I recommend "Rompope Santa Clara", a Mexican Eggnog, that has enough alcohol to be considered hard liquor under US Law.

10. Is that the duty free - Ueta?
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 09:51 PM by Kali
don't know no warehouses, but Tell me more. I do buy at Ueta and come back - (best time to have some Jack Morman friends - go on a shopping trip to Aqua Prieta, hee hee) - I usually get cointreau and Amarula. The cointreau because it is so much cheaper and the Amarula because I have yet to see it anywhere else. (A friend brought some back from Namibia and then we saw it in the Ueta - if you like cream liqueur find this and give it a try) When they have Herradura I get that too, as it is still cheaper than most of the shops on the Mexican side. Rum too. It all depends on how many non-drinkers are in the vehicle!

I've heard of Rompope, but never tried it.

11. You HAVE to try Rompope
The custom bonded warehouses are located near the border just before you cross over to the Mexican side.

Custom bonded means they cannot sell ANYTHING, except to customers who are going out of the country.

And that means, no US taxes are imposed on the products...

No tobacco taxes, no alcohol taxes, nothing...

I used to buy Wiborowa Polish vodka, three liters for 10 bucks.

Dunhill, Rothman's, and John Player specials, for 50 cents a pack.

14. OK I will!!
The Ueta is a duty free shop, no taxes - not like a big warehouse - there is an armed guard that makes sure you go on across the border - the one in Douglas is right on the corner - you can sit in the parking lot and watch the US guys searching cars coming this way.

22. Hmm, Mexican? Mexico is a country.
A blue-eyed blond child of Swedish descent would be a Mexican if born there, wouldn't they? My Grand Son is a Texan of partial Hispanic descent. I tell him to be proud of all of his heritages, which are similar. My family has North American Indian, English, and Scottish lines, his Mother's family has South American Indian and Spanish lines. Not a problem.

41. I'm white as a sheet but I have a Spanish last name due to marriage.
My kid, in preschool told me once she wish she had a differant last name so people wouldn't think she was dumb. See how early adults label kids? The kids were too young to be prejudice, that comes with training. I was in court and the DA assistant asked me if I spoke English. I should've spoken French, that would've should them morons. The courts in this hick town I moved to are full of people from Mexico who are rammed through the system and treated unfairly with threats of "If you don't comply it's back over the border." And racial profiling is pretty big here. Just thinking about it makes me angry. Rat bastards!

saw the donkeys painted like zebras.

I bought Negro Modelo in the old days with the heavy glass bottles that looked like they melted.

I did the fifty mile bike race from Ensenada to Rosarito Beach! Ate fish tacos at the end.

My favorite Mexican food; The best chile verde in the world at Lucy's Drive-In at Pico and LaBrea.

I also honeymooned in Mexico.

I must be Mexican.

There is just as long of a history of immigration as the USA. French, Germans, Spanish, Indian, EastAsian and of course the indigenous folks all make up the Mexican tapestry.
