What is the strangest thing that you re-use?
I haven't done this yet, but I'm seriously thinking about trying to re-use "freezer bags," those bags you put, like, a piece of chicken into to freeze it until you are ready to thaw it. They are sturdy, and expensive.

The other object that is hard for me to dispose of is a disposable razor blade. I find it very hard to toss them until I have some "special event" coming up or social thing where I know I need to really be clean shaven.

1. I don't think it is safe to re-use those freezer bags.
Especially if you used it for chicken. It could contain salmonella or other bacteria that would be transferred to other foods. I doubt if you could get it clean enough.

They aren't cheap, but not so expensive as to risk illess.

I re-use relatively clean aluminum foil (not greasy or splattered) to cover open cat food cans. I put the foil, then a plastic lid, so they don't stink up the fridge.

5. You make some good points.
The aluminum foil idea is good for pet food. I tend to use plastic.

I wonder if cheap plastic wrap is okay to use in place of a freezer bag?

6. We put them through the dishwasher.
No issues yet. I'd be the most likely to get ill as I've been a vegetarian for nearly 7 years and haven't been exposed to animal-related foodborne pathogens in years. I haven't had so much as indigestion or a bout of the trots since we started to wash the bags.

Still...you might be right. I make a point to use bags only like-for-like anyways.

4. We reuse those freezer bags for bread
I buy bread that comes in a paper lunch sack, so we put it in the freezer bag in the fridge.

I have a costco freetrade coffee bag that I use for my lunch bag - it's like a brown bag, but sturdy and leak proof if a container inside has an incident, and can be rinsed out.

I have a boatload of plastic spoons and knives I reuse at school - I supply sandwich stuff for any hungry kids in the school (my own cheese sandwich sort of program!!!) but we have a dirty knife bin so I don't have to buy those every week. On crockpot soup days, we recycle the spoons.
