Does anyone really like Adam Sandler?

The guy is bulletproof when it comes to ticket sales and for the life of me, I don't know why. I kind of liked Happy Gilmore but it stops there. How does this guy keep America laughing so hard? Am I the only one that doesn't find his humor all that funny? And does anyone buy the weird moral/silver lining he interjects into his movies? Fucking weird, man.

1. I like him, but he hasn't done anything I've liked in a while.
He's better when his movies don't follow the usual Adam Sandler movie formula. I liked Spanglish and Punch-Drunk Love. And The Wedding Singer.

6. Agreed. I liked Spanglish and The Wedding Singer
"Julia Goolia?!"

Didn't see Punch Drunk Love. I'm not going to run out and see it, but I'd consider watching it way way way wayyyyy before you could ever make me watch Happy Gilmore or whatever other shit is out there.

2. He bats .500 with me (in comedy fashion, not his faux-serious roles).
His standup is funny, and his SNL days were very funny. His SNL success may have a good lot to do with the rest of the cast at the time, though.

4. I really liked him in Spanglish. I didn't want to like him in that role, but I did.

Every once in a while he does something I like, but not too often.

The Wedding Singer was good, though.

8. He's a canny hack who knows the mass audience...
hence the lameass humor and the sentimental horseshit (a winning combination with the Yahoos)

10. Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy and his cameo in "Dirty work" where his best, i thought
Dirty work was hilarious but i like Norm MacDonald.

Don't mess with the Zohan was probably one of the worst movies i've seen in a long time, it was Showgirls bad.

12. No. People go to his films because they hate him.
Just like the all hate Billy Corgan, so they buy lots of Smashing Pumpkin CDs.

I avoid his movies when possible, but the occasional times I've been stuck seeing one, I've found them to be not the least bit funny. Stupid humor, which seems to rule in America.

Like Happy Gilmore and the Billy Madison and the other one. He's just not as funny now that I'm old-er.

16. I despise him.
Very, very unfunny. And yet he has a huge fanbase. It's inexplicable. Kind of like a Creed record that goes diamond.

19. Diamond?
Is that the next level after platinum? If so, what comes after diamond? Moon rock?

(Hmmm, GReedMoonrock...I kinda like that...I wonder when they're gonna have one of those name changing opportunities at DU again...)

In any case, not a big Sandler fan here either, although I have no reason to despise the guy (unless I missed something, like, back in the day, Adam skateboarding with Bu$hler over there at "Prairie Chapel," or possum hunting with Darth Cheney at the "Possum Farm Hunt Club and Casino").

Creed sucketh too, are they still around? Not that I wish them ill, either, cuz I don't.

Yes, the next step up after platinum.

And yes, Creed is gone but they are threatening a comeback.

21. I've known several people who have...
...literal "Gold Record" awards which, as MrSlayer obviously knows, is 500,000-999,999 copies sold, with One Million being the threshold for "Platinum." The trophy version of these "awards" can extend to quite a few people beyond the "band"...but I've yet to associate with any "Platinum," much less "Diamond" level recipients. How surprising is that?!

But, I gotta ask, why not some kind of recognition for those confused over/underachievers who only got up to Five Million in sales? Like say, a "Titanium" award or something?

"Moon Rock" (aka "Moon Lock" in China) would have to be One Billion in sales, IMO, and I would guess that the first recipient of that would be Kelly Clarkson, sometime in the FUTURE post economic meltdown neo-GOlden Age of the "GlObal eCONomy."

-GReedDiamond naka GoGoCon because hindsight is 20/20.

PS: "Creed" sounds a lot like "Greed," just sayin'...

...in the American dream. They exemplify that one doesn't have to have a stitch a talent, to make it big. I just wish I had their agent.

22. No. Same with Will Ferrell.
Maybe it's because good comedies are really, really difficult to write. Most of these films seem like they're pumped out overnight.

23. He was great in Punch Drunk Love, but that wasn't an "Adam Sander movie"
It was a Paul Thomas Anderson movie that starred Adam Sandler. It's a brilliant film.

He did a credible Daltreyesque scream in his "Magic Bus" burlesque intro on guitar.
