Dear God, that Robert Downey Jr. "Iron Man" flick was a relentless piece of CRAP.
I rented it today to play with the RiffTrax from Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy & Bill Corbett.

Yeah, I know, Tony Stark (in the original comic) was a wealthy playboy dick, but Downey turns Tony Stark into Tony Snark. Even before he took the shrapnel hit I was wishing and hoping and praying that The Mandarin or Ultimo or Magneto or The Titanium Man or The Melter would show up and use their super powers to make him shut the fuck UP.

It wasn't Gwynneth Paltrow's finest hour, either (although some might consider the term "Gwyneth Paltrow's finest hour" to be something of an oxymoron).

And Jeff Bridges as Patrick Stewart channeling Lex Luthor? What the hell is up with THAT?

And 15 seconds of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury didn't save this stinker, either.

1. Was it a piece of crap, or did you just think it was a piece of crap?
Because I didn't think it was a piece of crap, so I think you just think it was a piece of crap, because if it was really a piece of crap I think I would think it was a piece of crap, too, or in reality I think I would know it was a piece of crap. If we both think different things, then either one or both of us is wrong, and I suspect that means both of us are wrong and are just expressing subjective opinions as though we think they are facts, when in fact the fact is that these are both opinions, not facts.

4. I've not seen it.
I heard it was really good. A lot of people whose opinion I respect say it's the best superhero movie ever.

5. Thats how I've always felt about Tony Stark
He's a douchebag. Especially since Civil War.

7. For the genre, I felt it was pretty good.
Granted, I wasn't a big fan of the Iron Man comics, so I didn't go in with any expectations like I would with a Batman Begins or a Constantine (what a stinker.)
I felt that Robert Downey was better out of the suit than in, but I've always found him to be a charismatic actor.
My only quibble was with the soundtrack; the quasi-metal guitar thing left me a little cold. I think the idea of using electric instruments was good, I just wanted a little more 'crunch.'

peace

8. I thought that it was very good
Adequately faithful to the source material, cleverly executed, and I thought that the performances were well-matched to the tone of the film overall.

I don't understand your assessment of Bridges' acting, either; is it a bald joke? I didn't see any Stewart or Luthor in his performance.

11. As forgettable as it was, it was still the best superhero action movie of the year.
Now Dark Knight- that was absolute shit.

16. I didn't really are for it either - but RiffTrax by the ex-MST3K guys rule!
Lucky you had that cause I thought this movie highly overrated too. My favorite of theirs so far has got to be their Halloween (original version) movie RiffTrax. Soooo funny. :hi:

17. I thought it was fucking great!
Can't wait for the sequel. Robert Downey Jr. was BORN to play Tony Stark. That is his role and no one else's. He's had some rough times in his life, just like Stark. If he embraces the role properly he has a job for rest of his life.
