Their post-Shane work left me cold. But Rum Sodomy and the Lash, and If I should Fall..... are all regulars in my stereo.

4. I love the Pogues.
We had Shane McGowan's DVD "Should I Fall from Grace" on Friday night while we were drinkin' whiskey and playing poker.

He should really get himself to the dentist. If you thought he looked bad in the 80's, you should see him now.

24. They have many rehearsal spots here in Phoenix, all located
in upper middle lass areas with much retail. Loads of comfortable seating as well-they obviously love their fans.

I'll pass it along that their fame is spreading!

15. Overt Thread Hijack: Just how long has the east coast had Smi'ticks?
Edited on Mon Mar-08-04 04:26 PM by markus
Lo and behold, I roll into DC last weekend on a lark, and drop into the Hawk and Dove for lunch. And, lo and behold, there is a poster announcing cut-rate Smithwicks some weeknight through St. P.

And, of course, I had a quick Guinness at the Dulbliner, but quick switched to Smi't'icks. (Actually, I was saying at Jury's on Dupont Circle, and if you can stand the overly loud FM Radio/Soundtrack Of My Life music at Biddy Mulligan's, they pulled a clearly superior pint by the head stand test, if you please).

God, I fell in love with Smithwicks when I went to Ireland 12 years ago, and have considered it a major cultural defect of these United States that I couldn't get my hands on any.

26. Actually, Streak is the only calico
Female is black smoke Turkish Angora.

Male is tortie mix -- Female's sister. She has some Angora traits like the fluffy tail.

Trin is Streak's sister, and is also tortie mix.

20. I'm always in the mood....
...for a little Irish music.

The Fields Of Athenry
by ?
(As originally published in 1888)
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a sweet voice calling,
"Danny, they have taken you away.
For you stole Trevelyan's corn,
That your babes might see the morn,
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay."

Chorus:
Fair lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small freebirds fly.
Our love grew with the spring,
We had dreams and songs to sing
As we wandered through the fields of Athenry.

By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young man calling
"Nothing matters, Jenny, when you're free
Against the famine and the crown,
I rebelled, they ran me down,
Now you must raise our children without me."

(Chorus)

On the windswept harbour wall,
She watched the last star rising
As the prison ship sailed out across the sky
But she'll watch and hope and pray,
For her love in Botany Bay
Whilst she is lonely in the fields of Athenry
Whilst she is lonely in the fields of Athenry.

30. Been listening to them all day!
Rum, Sodomy and the Lash and If I Should Fall From Grace With God in endless rotation.

Got to see them several years ago when Shane was "too ill" to make it. Standing in for him, Joe Strommer.

Damn good show...

31. I like the idea of The Pogues better than the aural reality...
I vividly remember apologizing to my friend Tony on behalf of all white people when he was rightly horrified upon hearing "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda"

Tony: You crackers sure have some fucked up music
mitchum: C'mon man, a lot of us can sing better than that
