Blue State Residents - Does Your State Have RED State Laws?
For instance, I'm in Jersey. Today, legislation is pending to ban prefessional waxing on genitalia. Passing a bill such as this is very red state/Bible belt in mentality, imo.

What kind of red state-style laws does your blue state have?

2. an old law where its illegal for atheists to hold state offices.
Considering the liberal politics of this state, I doubt that law is enforced though...:)

14. Oh you think that's bad - try to buy liquor in Pennsylvania
Not sure if they still have blue laws but...

Beer can be bought at a beer distributor or at a bar/restaurant that has a license to sell 6-packs.

Liquor must be bought at the State Liquor Store - if you work for one of these you're a state employee. BTW, no beer is sold at these places.

No wonder Total Wine, right over the border in Delaware, is the 2nd largest liquor store in the world - it sells everything and the taxes are way cheaper.

20. Not much different than Utah.
Except you can buy beer anywhere.

But yes, we have state liquor stores, where all the liquor is sold.

17. Hey we have 3.2 beer here in Utah, too!
So not only are our drunks, well drunks, but they're fatter drunks because they drink more beer.

22. Oklahoma has 3.2 beer.
Beer sold in convenience and grocery stores have to be labeled as 3.2% by weight. Beer sold in liquor stores can have any alcohol content but must be sold at room temperature. I love traveling out of state just to see the huge variety of beers sold at gas stations.

I always thought Oklahoma liquor laws were weird until I read up on Utah laws.

23. We've fixed a lot of our laws.
No more private clubs and they can now connect the bar to a restaurant.

Still the state owned liquor stores, but I'm guessing that'll change soon.

15. I don't know. While I think the NJ Brazilian wax ban sounds pretty ridiculous...
....and a serious overreaction to a couple of isolated incidents, it was proposed out of a legitimate health and consumer concern. And in general, there's nothing backwards--or "red state-ish"--about passing legislation in the interests of the public's health and consumer protection.

Perhaps it's just my serious aversion to the libertarian bubble-world mindset which inevitably results in annoying, incessant whining about "nanny-staters"--for example, all the outrage and gnashing of teeth over smoking laws. Overburdensome, unnecessary beauracracy is a problem, no doubt. But the total absence of regulations and sensible prohibitions in the interests of the general public is not the road we should ever want to take.

I'm not defending the Brazilian wax ban itself, mind you. I'm just saying that the general idea of wanting to pass laws to protect public health and consumer interests is not always a bad thing.

19. Ohio has the Prop. 8 type constitutional ban on gay marriage.
We also have an exception to our child endangerment law for withholding medical treatment for a child based on religious belief.

21. Michigan also banned gay marriage
We called it proposal 2. Very sad that it passed. Our douchebag AG also pushed lawsuits to prevent public institutions from providing health benefits to gay partners, claiming the gay marriage ban meant a ban on health benefits too. One day, the ban will be overturned.
