WTF happened to the Return of the Dead series?

The first was clever, funny and enjoyable.

The second was a bit ridiculous, but still I enjoyed it.

The third was pretty bad.

Now they've got this Rave From the Grave bullshit?

I thought it was pretty good, but my wife thought it was lame.

but after watching The Midnight Meat Train the other night, just about anything was an improvement as far as movies go. How can such a great short story be turned into such a lousy movie?
