I was only blessed with one child. She is awesome and the light of my life. Sadly, she is about to leave the nest and stretch her wings. She graduates in 37 days and then off to college :(

I think she was around two in that picture

Now here she is almost graduated and getting ready for prom.

4. she used to love getting into my tupperware cabinet
and would wear the jello mold as a hat and just sing and sing and sing.

It must have been morning as she has her night shirt she loved sleeping in and shoes on...

6. We knew our goddaughter, Luisa, was special from the beginning.
But we didn't know she was gonna be drop-dead gorgeous at 15. And she's the most kind, gracious, introspective and clean-cut young woman -- far, far more evolved than I -- or her mom -- was at 15. At 15, she's a dancer, pianist, guitarist, painter and very progressive young woman who speaks/writes six languages (Swiss-German, German, Italian, northern Italian Lombardic dialect, English and French) fluently. Ya just never know, greenbriar -- we do the best we can as parents, godparentsand, aunts, uncles and grandparents, and then wait to watch 'em bloom. ;)

28. Languages are not my strong suit,
but it's not uncommon for young people to speak at least two or three languages here. Our goddaughters just happened to have an English-speaking goddmother thrown into the mix. Swiss-German is their first language, but we live in an Italian-speaking state, so they had to learn Italian in pre-kindergarten in order to go to school here. They naturally picked up the local Italian dialect from friends, and they learned English from me, before taking German, English and French in school. It's amazing to me how effortlessly they can go back and forth between the languages. It makes me more than a little ashamed of my own language deficiency. ;hi:

31. If I had even known
I was going to live abroad, I would have made an effort to learn German, and maybe French, when I was younger. My rudimentary Spanish doesn't serve me very well in Switzerland, except for (somewhat) informing my understanding of Italian. x(

13. Try not to see it as a sad thing
I know that's easier to say than to do. But it's really amazing to be an adult with your daughter - my daughter is 27 and I talk to her on the phone about 3 times a week (she's 2000 miles away or I'd probably see her every other day). She's one of my best friends and one of the coolest people I know.

It's hard seeing them grow up but it's not an ending, it really is just a continuation.

Your daughter is just beautiful.

14. thank you. I know she is going to be an awesome woman
and I look forward to being her confidant and friend

but I so truly miss my baby girl. She was so fun and sweet and joyful.

Now, she is stressed and moody and so wants a boyfriend...

but she works hard and makes good grades.

She is graduating High School 1 full year early and is in NHS

16. It's hard
but it's what we raise them for, to go off and make their own way in the world. I had such a hard time when my son went off to school. We used to go to shows, rock climb, and all kinds of things together. I was a bit more ready for it when our daughter went off to school.

One of my favorite pictures from a day trip to Salem a year ago.

Went on and on about how his little baby boy that was 2 months premature and whose little hand was the size of his thumb grew up to be a fine young man. :-)

24. Adorable, but she has some kind of mold growing on her head in the first pic
Or is that a bundt pan?

I recently looked at my five-year-old's baby pictures, and I can't believe that the goofy stringbean of a boy is the same little loaf-sized infant we brought home just yesterday.

Thanks for sharing!

29. My life is similar
I only had one daughter and 4 years ago in June, she graduated from HS and went off to college. It was exciting for her and me, but bittersweet. Lelapin is my best friend, confidant and understands me when few others do.

Your daughter is beautiful, confident and poised. I can't wait to see what she'll do in the world. You've done a terrific job with excellent material. ;)

I'm out here if you need to talk. I find myself again where you are. Lelapin graduates in June from Ohio State and then by summer's end will be off to places unknown.
