3. I think it's like grunting during sit-ups or other exercise.
The muscles that have to flex force out air and cause a small vocalization.

5. My cats meow involuntarily when excited... like when they spot a bug.

4. Has she had surgery of any kind lately?
Does it sound like just a "Meow." or does it sound like "MEOW!!!" In other words, does it sound like pain or just a quirk or some sort?

12. Did it start then? Maybe it started as "Ouch" and became

a habit.

17. I didn't notice it then. I would actually call it a cross between a meow and a purr

7. Mine usually do the same thing,
although it's more of a squeaky grunt than an actual meow. Sort of a "Hrrrm!" sound. I think it really is a grunt, rather like the noise I make when I hoist my porky ass out of a chair.

9. To make you ask why she meows every time she jumps.
And it works!

(This was my dad's standard reply to my when I was in the "why" stage of childhood)

13. mine kinda meows/grunts every time she jumps down from somewhere too
but then she's also 16 pounds, so that's a lot of weight shifting.

18. I think she's inadvertantly meowing and then jumping from surprise
She startles herself. But of course, then she acts all natural about it, like "oh, I meant to do that" and makes you think that she jumps first and meows as a consequence.

They're tricky that way.
